Girl group hit lucky with legend

AS FIRST gigs go, it couldn't have been better.

Girl group 90% Angel were performing at a star-studded charity event when they found themselves sharing the stage with a legend.

Superstar Johnny Mathis - who has wowed thousands of fans over the decades - grabbed a mike and joined in as the girls launched into The Angels are Crying. And so pleased was Johnny with the results, he has agreed to collaborate with the girls on a new single.

The surprise stage invasion came as the group performed at the Howard Keel NSPCC Golf Classic gala dinner in Manchester.

And their performance was so inspiring that Oscar-winning Paul Williams who composed classics hits for The Carpenters including We've Only Just Begun, offered to write the girls an original song. Band member Gaynor Morgan said: "It was incredible, it was our first gig and suddenly there next to us on stage was a true living legend.

"Then afterward Paul Williams came up to us and said he would be honoured if we would record one of his songs. We couldn't believe what was happening to us."

The members of 90% Angel are Lisa Watts, Lizette Roberts, Jackie Ashworth, Belinda Barnstall and Gaynor.

They recently signed a major deal with XKM managment and the word in the industry is that they could be the next big thing. Gaynor, daughter of ex-Manchester United winger Willie Morgan, said: "We have only been singing together for a couple of years just for fun."
