A BUSINESSMAN has been charged with conspiracy to defraud following an investigation by the Manchester Evening News.
Detectives from Greater Manchester police commercial fraud Squad launched an inquiry into city-centre based Fullerton Publications after the M.E.N. article which alleged the firm set up its own crime prevention unit selling advertising space.
The company said the journals were being sent out to thousands of schools. Officers visited the business last October, seizing paperwork and computer disks for further investigation.
Director Gary Callaghan, from Tameside, was arrested and bailed. And he has now been charged with conspiracy to defraud. He was appearing before magistrates in Manchester today.
Fullerton Publications is based at Cedar House on Fairfield Street in Manchester. Detectives have also investigated its links with another company - Barclay Seymore - which is based in the same building.
