THE family of a teenager who was knocked down and killed by an impatient bus driver erupted with fury today when he was jailed for 12 months.
Edward Terry, 57, of Shipstone Close, Bury, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence after a jury convicted him of dangerous driving.
Student Emma Waters was killed at Bury Interchange last September. The court heard Terry moved off after allowing only two passengers to board and was heard to say "I'm not waiting another five minutes while she makes up her mind."
Emma, 19, ran alongside the bus but lost her footing and was run over by a back wheel. Her family condemned the sentence as "an insult".
Emma's brother, Clint Waters, said: "Terry showed an utter disregard for Emma's life. To crush her to death then to deny ever seeing her proves that he is an obnoxious man trying to cover his callous actions. We have not had an apology from him or the bus company which is an absolute disgrace."
