TOWN hall bosses in Bolton have drawn up plans to make sure the area reaps the benefits from the Commonwealth Games.The town will host the badminton and mountain biking events when the sporting festival takes place in Manchester in two years' time. A million spectators are expected to watch the games live - with another billion following the action on television.Councillors are keen to maximise the potential economic and tourist benefits. Council leader Bob Howarth leader said: ''It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and the spin-offs for tourism, culture, the economy and benefits for the community are massive.''Our policy development group will be looking at all these sources to ensure that we make the event a success.''Efforts by Manchester to reap maximum benefits from hosting the Games stepped up a gear with the visit to the city of Sir Alistair Goodlad. His visit was hosted by Marketing Manchester and brought together key representatives from business, arts, tourism and Manchester 2002.Marketing Manchester chief executive Vicki Gregory said: ''Australia has been identified as a key market in the extensive programme of legacy activities surrounding the Games. Our aim is to establish a strong working relationship between the north west and Australia, encompassing business, culture, education and sport.''
