THE Queen is to officially open The Lowry arts complex this autumn - she will visit the stunning steel-clad centre in Salford on October 12.

Her presence is seen as a major coup by bosses at the £127 million mix of galleries and theatres, which has been operating for four months.

The Queen and Prince Philip will spend the main part of the day there and will dine at the ultra-modern restaurant Steven Saunders At The Lowry.
