WORRIED staff at Manchester's education headquarters are to be given an information pack after a colleague died from Legionnaire's disease.

The move is being made after the M.E.N. revealed that Allan Balderson, 51, died from the illness which he is thought to have caught from contaminated water at Cumberland House in the city centre.

Health chiefs, union representatives and council officials met to discuss the worries of the 400 staff.

A clean-up operation of the building has already been carried out and traces of the Legionella bug have been found. However experts say any further danger to staff has been eliminated.

David Johnston, chief executive officer, said: ''It was decided that the drawing up of an information pack was the best way to inform staff about the situation and to address any fears. This is currently being prepared.

''Our advice to any employees with health concerns is to contact their GP with the specifically compiled medical information sheet which we are preparing.''
