SOCIAL services chiefs in Salford have put in a bid for £774,000 government cash for an action plan to protect children at risk of neglect or abuse.
Their strategy to improve the support service for vulnerable youngsters is being presented this week to the Department of Health.
Under the initiative — Quality Protects In Salford — social, health and education services staff will aim to ensure that children are protected from abuse and neglect.
A new policy document calls for social care workers with appropriate skills so that children can gain maximum benefit.
Coun Peter Connor, lead member for social services at Salford city council, said: ‘‘We want to ensure more stability for children in the care of the council. We will be working, wherever appropriate, towards fostering and adoption.’’
