A CONVICTED paedophile named and shamed by the News of the World walked free from court today.A judge said disgraced ex-schoolmaster Raymond Cullens was a marked man who had suffered due to adverse publicity - and imposed a suspended sentence because of the "exceptional circumstances."Cullens, 51, had molested four primary school pupils in all. He was jailed for 30 months in 1992 for indecently assaulting three, but was arrested again last year after his fourth victim - a 22-year-old who waived her anonymity - came forward. He was given a 15-month suspended prison term, having earlier been convicted of four indecent assaults and three charges of indecency with a child. Cullens was also ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register for ten years. At Manchester Crown Court, Judge Stuart Fish said he took into account the offences occurred at the same time as others for which Cullens had already served a prison term. But he added: "I add it to the fact you are a marked man - that is a little over the top, but you and your family have suffered considerable adverse publicity, although it has to be said you are the author of your own misfortune. I am satisfied there are exceptional circumstances to suspend the term of imprisonment."After the case, Cullens's latest victim, Kim Hawksworth, a witness support worker who had waived her right to anonymity said: "The sentence is absolutely disgraceful. I have spent 14 years serving this sentence and he walks out of court a free man. Now he is just free to carry on abusing children."As far as that hate campaign is concerned, he deserved everything he got and I'm going out of my way to protect other children. I think naming and shaming paedophiles is a brilliant campaign and every parent should have a right to know if a paedophile is living in their area."I want the News of the World to carry on publishing every paedophile in the country. That man lied during his trial and he made me go through the ordeal of giving evidence. He should have been punished. Once a paedophile, always a paedophile."Cullens - a devout churchgoer - was a Year Four form tutor, a school football referee and qualified first aider when he molested a total of four pupils at Bullough Moor Primary School at Heywood. One girl was systematically abused in return for Cullens giving her parents glowing school reports. In 1992 Cullens, formerly of Littlebrough, lost his job in disgrace after being sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for indecently assaulting three of the girls. After his release, he moved 300 miles away to Dorset. He was arrested again last year when Miss Hawkshaw finally plucked up courage to tell police.Cullens was named in reports of court proceedings in the Manchester Evening News in June. Then his name and picture appeared in the News of the World and his wife Jennifer said today before storming off after the case: "We've had enough of this - we've already had a brick through the window."The court heard Cullens - described by colleagues as "kind and dedicated" - had been a popular teacher who was always playing practical jokes in class. Ms Hawksworth told the jury she initially believed her teacher was "great" but everything changed when he suddenly began asking her to stay behind.Cullens denied the charges against Miss Hawksworth, but revealed his sordid past during evidence and was convicted. He claimed his previous convictions, for assaulting girls in 1984, 1990 and 1991, were brought on by work-related stress. He claimed he had been deeply affected by another youngster dying in his arms at school."I am ashamed for what I have done and it still grieves me greatly. It is terrible," he told the court.
