A SENIOR council officer at the centre of corruption allegations has told the Manchester Evening News he has nothing to hide.
The man, who is a manager at Oldham council, said he knew nothing about the allegations revealed in this week's report into the cause of the Oldham riots and no-one from the council had confronted him with them.
The investigation centres on claims that he engaged in ''job fixing'' where posts were created for close associates.
Greater Manchester Police say they expect to receive a file on the case and will then investigate it.
It is believed the officer is accused of manipulating shortlists and then giving his preferred candidates confidential information ahead of interviews to ensure success.
It is understood suspicion was aroused when a handful of the employee's close associates were allegedly given positions within the council and received public cash.
There are also concerns that council grants and properties have been wrongly awarded by the individual.
But, speaking from his home last night, he said he was innocent.
He said: ''I have done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide. I have been in the office all day and no-one has suggested the article referred to me.
''There are proper procedures that are gone through and I believe they should be followed. If they are accusing me of this, they should have approached me.''
He added he had not been involved in any recent recruitment drive and had no real influence.
The Independent Review Panel, drafted into Oldham after the town's race riots, unearthed the allegations.
