CHRISTMAS has come early for Manchester Evening News readers who are being treated to an array of goodies during the festive season.

Our team of jolly Santas spread seasonal cheer across the city centre yesterday by giving away chocolate advent calendars with each newspaper.

And they will be returning on selected days throughout December to hand out more free gifts.

A Manchester Evening News spokesman said: ''We thought it would be nice to get into the spirit of things and do something special to help our readers celebrate Christmas and thank them for their support through the year.

''The chocolate advent calendars were a huge success, but there are a lot more treats still in store.

''Look out for our city centre Santas. We will also be keeping readers informed through the newspaper.''
