Stars put boot into Aids awareness

CELEBRITIES have stamped their own style on dozens of pairs of boots in support of World Aids day.

Madonna, Oasis, Mick Jagger, the Spice Girls, All Saints, Sir Elton John, Nicole Kidman and Manchester United players have each decorated their own pair of the famous Dr Martens boots to raise awareness of HIV and Aids-related illnesses.

An exhibition of the decorated boots will be unveiled at the Dr Martens store in Manchester at the end of this month.

Hollywood star and former footballer Vinnie Jones, who added his boots to the exhibition, said: ''With over 34m people affected by HIV and Aids it is our duty to help spread awareness. We must remember no one has been cured yet.''

Oasis singer Liam Gallagher decorated his with gold marker, while Dr Martens has also designed a limited edition boot to support World Aids Day on December 1.

Only 100 pairs of these boots, marked with the Aids ribbon, will be made and sold exclusively at the Manchester store and the Covent Garden store in London, priced around £65.

Keith Winestein, of the National Aids Trust, said: ''It's vital that young people hear and understand Aids Day, because without a vaccine or cure education is the only weapon we have to prevent the spread of HIV.''
