LUCKY grandma Betty Conway has got the Midas touch - she can't stop winning, thanks to the Manchester Evening News.
Although she failed to win the £10,000 first prize in the latest reader competition, a cheque for £5,000 was more than a little consolation.
Betty, 73, of Heald Green, Stockport, said: ''This is the fourth time I've won something in the Manchester Evening News and it is always a super surprise.
''The first one was in 1995 when I won tickets to Disneyland Paris, and in 1997 I won a holiday to America which was fantastic.
''My next win was tickets to see Lord of the Dance at the Manchester Evening News Arena, and now I've got £5,000 to spend. It's wonderful.''
Betty, who works part-time in a local retail shop, was one of 12 lucky winners who entered the competition by collecting eight of the 12 British Gas tokens published in the MEN and sending them in for the draw.
Lucky find
The fantastic £10,000 first prize went to divorcee Barbara Donaldson, 47, who almost threw away her chances of picking up the cheque for the big win after carefully collecting the necessary tokens.
She said: ''I did the easy bit and collected the right amount of tokens, but then I stuck them in my handbag and forgot they were there.
''Fortunately, I came across them in my bag when I was looking for something else and sent them in just before the closing date.''
Barbara, who is hoping to treat herself to a luxury holiday, added: ''I've never won this amount of money before. It's going to be a great Christmas.''
British Gas Area manager Julian Anderton said: ''I'd like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone who entered the competition for showing so much interest.''
A further ten runners-up received £1,000.
