STUDENT Karolina Ohman tries to capture the spirit of Antarctica for an ambitious project at a top school.
The latest education and community effort at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester - designed to give pupils at local schools the chance to learn about the amazing landscape - runs until December 17.
The whole project covers art, drama and music workshops with lectures, talks, exhibitions, films and concerts.
A concert will be performed tonight by the Chetham's Symphony Orchestra. Works will include the English premier of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' High On The Slopes Of Terror, for which the orchestra recently gave the world premiere in Glasgow. The title for the work came from a line in Scott's Antarctic diaries.
Workshops
And there will be a new dramatised version of Vaughan Williams' Sinfonia Antarctica.
There will also be composers' workshops with Sir Peter and Dr Jeremy Pike at the school and a screening of South, the film recording of Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica in 1914, shown at the Cornerhouse Cinema in the city.
And at Chetham's there will be a private screening of the famous Scott of the Antarctic movie.
