This website has been named as runner-up in the prestigious Yell.com/Awards 2001.
www.manchesteronline.co.uk. was named as a runner-up alongside the ITN website www.itn.co.uk at a glittering ceremony hosted by Graham Norton at the Atlantis Gallery in London.
Both were pipped to the top award by the BBC website www.bbc.co.uk which was also shortlisted in several other categories, including best education site and best kids and youth site, and picked up a special award on the night in recognition of its outstanding overall contribution to the net.
The judges praised the way manchesteronline brought together locals, visitors and ex-patriots of all ages with an interest in the Greater Manchester region and its people.
The website's publishers, Guardian Media Group Regional Digital have already picked up the Newspaper Society's award for the best Internet site produced by a daily newspaper.
Managing Director, Debbie Phillips said this second award was a great achievement. She said: "It means a lot to us that this award was chosen by very important people - the people who actually use our website."
