A HAPPY family pose for the camera on a foreign holiday, but just weeks later 11-year-old Scott Fanning was killed in an accident at a notorious beauty spot.
Two years on, his grief-stricken dad Alan, unable to cope with his son's death, died after a cry for help went wrong.
Scott fell to his death from the Ashworth Valley in Heywood on an adventure holiday in May 1997.
Alan, 37, was pulled from his fume filled car after attaching a hosepipe to the exhaust, but died later. A coroner later recorded an open verdict, saying he was not convinced Mr Fanning meant to kill himself.
Today, his wife Sharon Fanning said she would do anything to make Ashworth Valley safe, even if she had to pay for safety improvements herself.
