A STUDENT who made medical history when he and his sister became the first siblings in the country to have liver transplants, has died.
Cystic Fibrosis sufferer Christopher Andrew had started a degree course at Huddersfield University after the successful operation last August.
He was studying psychology, despite being refused a grant by education bosses because he had dropped out of previous course to have the operation.
But, he became unwell early this year and he died at home in Oldham this week.
His sister Catherine, who also suffers from the disease, said her brother always lived life to the full.
She said: ''Christopher would never let things faze him. He showed tremendous courage, dignity and strength in the last hours - it was very humbling.''
Christopher, 24, was the winner of two national cycling championships and a tennis championship.
And he was determined to get his degree despite being refused a grant.
At the time he said: ''I am going to have to take out loans to get my degree but if that is what it takes, that is what I will do.''
His funeral was taking place on Friday at St Edward's Church, Lees, and any donations should be sent to the Bradbury Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Wythenshawe Hospital.
