MP backs Kashmir conflict campaign

MP Brian Iddon is backing a campaign to help families in Kashmir devastated by continuing conflict in the region.

On Kashmir Solidarity Day he signed a Commons motion aimed at reminding people of the situation.

Bolton South East MP Dr Iddon said: "Since 1988 an estimated 100,000 Kashmiri people have died as a result of the continuing violent conflicts and this is a chance to raise awareness."

Meanwhile, MPs from Greater Manchester have congratulated groups who organised events for Holocaust Memorial Day.

They praised John McManus, of Manchester Education Partnership, and Michael Etherton, of the British Jewish Film Festival.

Taking part was Holocaust survivor Steven Frank, who gave an account of life under the Nazis.

Why should the British taxpayer help Kashmiri families? Perhaps the Pakistani and Indian governments should divert funds from their nuclear weapons programs.
If we fund the welfare of the victims, it merely helps the two governments to persist with the conflict, rather than sorting it out.

i think you miss the point Paul, how can a mp signing a motion to remind people of the situation cost british tax payers any money?

You are right about both indian and pakistani governements wasting money on nuclear weapons tho
