MASSIVE congestion charging scheme planned for Greater Manchester
15 `corridors' into the city earmarked for charging
CHARGES vary according to route, time and distance
ROADSIDE scanners and satellite technology will track journeys.
THE charge will be up to é8 a day costing an average motorist around é2,000 a year
THOSE caught by number plate cameras trying to cheat the system will be fined
THE scheme would not come in before 2010
WHAT do you think of the proposals? Have your say.

Further along Oldham road, what happens? All the cars get pushed into one lane so a bus can get through faster. Where's the logic 200+ cars inone lane, so 1 bus can get through. Public transport is in adequate with too many different bus companies operating.
To get from home in New Moston to work in Clayton,(or Eastlands as the Council like to call it) via public transport I would have to get a bus into the city centre and another bus out, more than doubling the length of my journey and probably taking 4 times as long. That's if I could even get on a bus.
All the city council seem to want from the motorist is money. They charge you to park. Don't they rake in enough money there. 4 shifts of parking attendant, 10 (?)attendants per shift, average of 10 tickets each per day, 7 days a week, £30 a ticket (minimum) £84k a week. Round it up £4.5m+ a year That's without the extra charge for clamping, if it's towed and storage. Most of that money goes to the council
They introduce bus lanes which in my view add to the congestion and then charge you if you enter it, now they want they charge you to use the roads. Next they'll be charging you for breathing.
We all grumble an groan, but the council doesn't listen. I'd like to see what would happen if there was a Public transport day, where everyone gets the bus, tram or train to work. No doubt the city would grind to a halt.
