KYLIE Minogue has cancelled her shows tonight and tomorrow night at the M.E.N. Arena after being diagnosed with a chest infection. The singer spent yesterday in her hotel room at Piccadilly's Malmaison Hotel before checking out last night.
She left through the back door after being led down the hotel stairs accompanied by a four-strong entourage.
Kylie was driven off in an Audi A8, understood to be heading to her London home.
An onlooker said: "She smiled and got in the car. She looked fine and chirpy and she was wearing a scarf wrapped around her neck."
M.E.N. Arena bosses say that she is expected to perform on Thursday and Friday night after getting five days' rest.
But it is not yet known if the cancelled concerts, for which 30,000 tickets have been sold, will be rescheduled.
Anyone with tickets for Monday or Tuesday is being advised to hold on to them until a decision has been made as they will remain valid for any new dates.
Kylie's spokesman said: "Kylie has been diagnosed by doctors as having a moderately severe respiratory tract infection and doctors have insisted that she not perform in the immediate future."
On Saturday night Kylie walked off stage 40 minutes into the second show of her six-date run after telling the audience she was too sick to continue. It is understood tour bosses have not yet come to a decision on whether the 14,000 concertgoers will be refunded.
Abandoned
Saturday night was the first time Kylie, 38, has ever abandoned a show in her 20-year pop career.
At the start of the night, Kylie told the audience, which included Will Young and Man United aces Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, that she had a cold.
Later, the singer returned from a costume change and said: "I'm sorry...but I can't sing on."
The star briefly chatted and shook hands with audience members close to the stage before quitting.
Her early departure was met with both cheers and boos from the crowd, who had paid at least é55 for tickets and travelled from as far as Scotland.
Die-hard Kylie fan Chris Bird, who took his family to the show, told the M.E.N: "We were not surprised when she said she would have to go because she had already said she wasn't feeling well. We were not disappointed because you have to think about what she's been through and what a fighter she is.
"I saw her first-ever performance at the Apollo in Manchester so to be honest if she'd come out on stage and just waved to the crowd I would have been happy.
"The real fans recognise her comeback is a magnificent feat. The concert was a real showgirl performance with great singing and dancing - it wasn't until she spoke you could hear she was suffering with a heavy cold.
"A lot of performers would have sent their management out to say the show wasn't going on. To come out and say it yourself to that many thousand people shows incredible bottle."
Cancelled
Not every concertgoer agreed. This website has been flooded with comments from readers, many of whom felt Kylie should have cancelled the gig and rescheduled beforehand.
Henrietta, of Stockport, said: "I am totally fuming. If she was ill on Friday night, why did she not cancel it earlier to save us wasting our time and hard earned money? Not all of us are as well off as Kylie Minogue. I will never bother with her or her records again."
A spokesman has denied the health scare was linked to her battle with breast cancer, which forced her to put her career on hold for a year-and-a-half before her comeback tour which began in Sydney, Australia, last November.
Jon Bills, tour spokesman, said: "Several members of the crew, the tour manager and Kylie have been suffering from flu - but she didn't want to let anyone down. She wanted to try to get through the show, but had to cut it short. She wanted to soldier on."
Kylie, who first tasted fame in the eighties as Neighbours' mechanic Charlene Robinson, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005. She underwent successful surgery in Melbourne, her hometown that month, before chemotherapy in Paris.
You can leave your get well messages for Kylie below - we will pass them on to her.

At the end of the day it is just a job like any other and if you are ill then you are the important thing.

Hope you get better soon Kylie. Some things in life are more important than pop concerts.

I just want to say that I hope you have a speedy recovery. Don't listen to any negative comments from your "fans"... they aren't true fans if they say such things.
Illness can sometimes be more severe than it does appear, so I would like to say to those who are saying rude comments to Kylie... You are selfish. Only say something like that until you have been through it, and until then shut up.

Pop stars are no different, even though people put them on a pedestal and expect them to perform regardless.
Give the girl a break!!

I managed to get my tickets at cost price, but in view of the fact that they're like gold dust, I don't want a refund, as I may not be able to get hold of any others without paying ridiculous Ebay prices.
Also, the poor fools who did pay up to £300 per ticket would only get £55 back which, although I can't condone, isn't fair on them.

If we dont get our money back or an extra date to see the show because £50.00 is a lot for what it was then i hope Kylie and Management lose a lot of fans.

However lets be realistic, for months we have read reposrts of her people and friends telling her she was taking on too much by doing Manchester as well as the obligatory completion of the cancelled 2005 tour.
By announcing these dates she effectively told the world and her fanbase that she was well again or at least well enough to perform, bumped up the ticket prices and no doubt worked out how much she was going to make from returning to the city she "loves".
As a famous person her people and herself know that making these kind of statements has to be thought about.
She is obviously too tired bless her, and I dont blame her after what she has been through but by turning around and admitting this she would get worse press than if she went off with "flu" and well she knows it.
Kylie Minogue has left Manchester and checked out of her hotel - are these the actions of a woman intending to complete her dates in the city.
get a backbone, tell the truth love, your knackered - the fans will appreciate that so much more.
If she doesnt play the rest of the tour her "untarnished image" as the worlds fairytal princess will start to wane and she will become a joke.

A totally brave effort for trying to soldier on sat night, But if you're ill take it easy for bit and get better!!
At the moment there are mentions of resheduling the cancelled shows but please think of all the fans that were there on sat night and reschedule that concert too, cos we still want to see the whole show.
I have waited years to see you and was absolutely gutted on Sat. Main concern is that you get fit and well and don't try to do too much too soon.
Heres to a speedy recovery and hopefully to seeing you again soon. Take Care

Different comments i've heard is that she got through half the show is rubbish, she came on stage at 20:10 and stopped it at 21:00 and for two spells she went off stage for about 5 mins each time, she missed out act 3 completely and went straight to kids to finish., (which Danny) sang most of.
Her management team should do the right thing and at least refund half ,if not all the Value of each tickets.
Sharon Burrows, Nantwich (15/01/2007 at 11:27)
She did sound hoarse when she spoke but sang brilliantly. Cannot believe some people have given negative feedback about this, I'm sure I would have been gutted if it had happened to me but Thats life!
Hope she gets better soon!
