Fans wait for ticket news after Kylie cancels

FANS were today waiting to hear if the show will go on after the flu-hit star was forced to quit half way through a live gig last night.

No decision has been taken on the remaining four dates of the Aussie star's shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena.

AN Arena spokesman said they had so far not been told that she won't be able to perform and were therefore advising fans the shows were still set to go ahead until they heard more.

A message on the arena's website said: "Please note that, as of 11am Sunday 14 January, Kylie's remaining Manchester shows on Monday 15, Tuesday 16, Thursday 18 and Friday 19 January will be going ahead as planned."

Fans were told they should continue to check the site for any later announcements about the four concerts.

Last night was the first time Kylie, 38, has ever had to interrupt a live show during her lengthy career at the top of the charts.

The Australian singer left the MEN Arena stage half way through the second of six performances of her Showgirl Homecoming show in the city.

Her early departure was blamed on a bad bout of flu, which was said to have also hit several other members of her crew.

A spokesman has denied the health scare was linked to her battle with breast cancer, which caused a career hiatus before a comeback tour that began in Sydney, Australia, last November.

"Kylie is suffering flu, as are other members of the tour group, including her manager. It is not linked to her breast cancer," the spokesman said last night.

Many of the singer's crew have come down with a bad strain of flu since arriving in England from Australia after completing Kylie's tour in her home country, her management said.

In a statement on the MEN site, it said the tour party's "worst fears" had come true last night when the singer herself became ill.

Kylie told fans just before the interval that she only had a cold and didn't want to cancel the show because she had been looking forward to it for so long.

But the singer was forced to stop mid-concert for the first time in her career and apologised to fans before cancelling the rest of the show, the statement said.

Spokesman John Bills added: "She didn't want to let anyone down. She wanted to try to get through the show, but had to cut it short."

Audience members had noticed the pop star was suffering from a heavy cold but one said she remained the "ultimate showgirl".

Wayne Warby, of Blackburn, Lancashire, wrote on the MEN website: "What a triumphant return. Although you could tell Kylie was suffering from a sore throat, this didn't dampen the mood or the performance one bit."

The star is understood to be staying at the exclusive Malmaison Hotel near Manchester's Piccadilly Station during her time in the city.

Staff on reception at the hotel denied she was a guest but other people staying there had spotted the singer.

One man, who did not wish to be named, said: "I saw her here on Friday night and last night. She was with quite a few people. They looked like they could have been dancers.

"She did not look too ill but I don't suppose I was looking too closely."

Kylie began her career as an actress on the Australian soap Neighbours and has gone on to become one of the most famous pop performers in the world.

It was revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005 and her Showgirl tour was cut short as she retired from public life to battle against the disease.

It is a shame Kylie is ill the concert was off to a great start, i would like to wish her well but would also like to add that the lack of information that was given to the sell out concert was very poor and left all her fans not knowing what was going on!!!!
I waited a long time to see her again and feel a little let down that i only got to see her perform 6 songs, and no mention of if we will get a refund or see her another night. The press are saying Kylie was half way through her show!!!she was no where near half way through and although i wish her well i feel a little cheated!!!!!!

I agree with Tim. She came on at 8.15pm and was gone by 9.15pm. This in addition to 10 minute costume changes where we left completely in the dark and unsure if it was going to continue. Whilst we wish her well, the men website seems geared to future shows. As she promised to make it up to us on her exit, It would be good to know where the Saturday night fans stand.

Ok as HUGE fan of Kylie I'm obviously going to be biased. Last night at the M.E.N was pure bad luck. Kylie is outstanding and in the whole of her career this is the first time she has EVER had to do this. Kylie is so professional and is sincerely dedicated to her fans, which has been shown so many times. the decision made last night would not have been easy and certainly not Kylies alone!! After everything she has been through (similar to a family member of mine) she is bound to have low immunity anyway so catching a cold is probably easy for her than counting 1,2,3. Everyone shoudl respect this. As for the information well that lies with her management and arena staff (the latter of which are not the most organised or friendly). I myself was frustrated last night of new news, however i knew this would not be down to Kylie. Therefore anyone who attended last night and is remotely annoyed then please bare in mind it will NOT have been easy for Kylie and her health is far more important. We'll have our concerts or refunds!! Get well soon Kylie x

Good folk of Manchester. Kylie's concert was a Christmas present for my wife. We stayed Saturday night in Manchester (Salford Quays) and returned to Cardiff today (Sunday) just a few hours ago. Kylie gave it her all for an hour or so. What a show. Of course disappointed it was cut short. Naturally her health is priority. Here's to a speedy recovery. Message to the promoters: We look forward to seeing the rest of the show in the not-too-distant future and of course returning to what is a magnificent city (incidentally one where I spent 3 happy years as a student back in the 80's!) God bless you all

Do You think Kylie will arrange another night for the concert that was cancelled on saturday night after managing to sing ? 4 songs, I don't think that she made it half way in her comback concert. I travelled from South Wales and was very disappointed, Kylie would have been better to have cancelled and re-book, when she was well enough to complete the concert.
Kylie didnot want to disappoint her fans but, i like that it would have been better for all, Kylie and her fans.

We wish Kylie all the best and hope she feels better soon.
Please reschedule Saturday's performance, my daughter and I were disappointed not to have seen the whole show.

Just got a message from Ticketmaster on my mobile to say the decision has been made to reschedule Saturdays show and to hold onto your ticket. Anyone else received this message?

Absolutely gutted that Kylie cancelled Saturday nights concert early; especially difficult for the young children who were present to accept/understand why. However, it was clearly evident that the decision was not taken lightly, she was obviously upset, and I wish her a speedy recovery. Hoping that the concert will soon be re-scheduled for another Saturday night in the not too distant future. I am quite disappointed at the lack of communication from MEN/promoters/management as to what is going to happen, why have Monday and Tuesday nights shows been rescheduled already, but not Saturday's? Although I only travelled 40 miles, others travelled up from places such as London for the weekend!

It was more or less obvious from the start of the show that something was wrong. Kylie was missing out singing parts of her songs, especially the more vocally difficult sections. In addition, there appeared to be long intervals inbetween the few songs that were performed.
Of course it was extremely disappointing having travelled from Spain to see the show and would love the opportunity to be able to see the whole show.
I fully respect Kylie´s decision to abandon the show, not being able to give her usual 100% and wish her a speedy recovery and all the best for the remaining/resheduled dates.

Why does it take so long to decide what happens for the people that were their on Saturday for the 4 or 5 songs that she tried to sing ?

When will be here as to when Saturday's abandoned gig will be rescheduled if it will be?

While it is pleasing to hear that Kylie's pulled show on the 13th has been resheduled to the 23rd, it is of great annoyance that it falls on a Tuesday and I therefore cannot go. I, like others, booked the tickets 5 months ago and it was no coincidence that I picked a weekend evening. I live in London and I am not able to pay travel and accommodation costs a second time round. I have just spoken to someone at the MEN Arena and they have no information about refunds at present. If anyone finds anything out about these, I would be grateful if you could share your knowledge. I am sure I am not alone in my situation and think those who are unable to attend the rescheduled date should kick up a fuss. We are quite rightfully entitled to a refund or at the very least, part repayment.

we were gutted when Kylie had to abandon her concert on Sat 13th, it was my husbands birthday and I'd got the tickets as a surprise so he didn't know he was going til that morning! it's great that it has been rescheduled but unfortunately my husband is away working and will not get to see the whole thing. Mind you our daughter is over the moon as I'm taking her instead! Can't wait.
