Teenager shot cyling in park

A 17-year-old boy was shot as he cycled through a park, police said today.

The teenager was shot three times in his back, stomach and leg in Longford Park, in Stretford, Greater Manchester, at 8.25pm yesterday.

The boy, who is thought to have been with two friends at the time of the shooting, underwent emergency surgery for his injuries last night.

Police said he was in a "comfortable condition" in hospital today.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We believe this was not a random incident. The investigation is at an early stage, but at the moment officers believe this is not linked to any other shooting incidents."

The shooting comes only months after a 15-year-old boy was shot dead in similar circumstances in a park in Manchester.

Jessie James was gunned down as he cycled with friends through Broadfield Park, in the Moss Side area of the city, in September.

His mother Barbara Reid urged the local community to take action against gun crime.

Who cares if it was random or not ?? So we have a targeted attempted murder in the early evening & the police try to placate the general public with a press release like this.

Is this still England,are we still in Western Europe ? It reads more like one of the savage Republics on the other side of the Atlantic. Bikes and guns in some parts of Manchester as the norm. Endless killings and appeals for information of their murderers is a way of life. It will only get worse as long as the three main political parties battle it out amongst themselves. We need a completly different approach to crime and drug smuggling.

Why do the police ALWAYS come out and say they do not believe it was random? Investigate it before assumming anything. Do they think it makes people feel safe that the gunman had a person in mind?

this didnt have nothin2 do with any other shootin that has happened its jus another example of people that dislike each other....the guy that got shot was set up by a txt message!!its jus gang crime that has bin liek this 4 2 long the police need 2 crack on!!

I feel that the police should be targetting these gangs more. Over the last few months the gun culture hasbecome more and more, children are getting hurt now.
I feel that the police will only do something when one of there own is injured by the gangs
