Workers 'shocked by electrical faults'

ALMOST one in five workers have suffered an electric shock on business premises, according to new research today.

A report revealed that many companies are not up to speed on the latest regulations covering electricity in the workplace, which includes maintenance of electrical systems.

A survey of 600 companies by Zurich Risk Services showed that electrical faults damaged property at almost one in six firms.

Around 2% of those questioned said customers or members of the public had experienced an electrical shock.

Phil Moore of Zurich Risk Services said: "These findings highlight that there is still a lack of awareness of the regulations, some 17 years after they were originally implemented."
