Claim forms submitted by drivers unveiled some gems of excuses amongst the bog-standard shunts and scrapes.
One motorist thought they were getting the Hollywood treatment when a carpet "flew" out from a van and into her path.
"It was a red carpet so I drove over it," the unnamed driver added.
Another motorist blamed their accident on a "confused badger" which prompted the driver to swerve into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
In one surreal incident, a female driver claimed "a car park bollard ran into me".
And it is not just motorists who are susceptible to an over-active imagination, homeowners are also prone, according to AA Insurance.
In a case that would perplex the world's greatest detectives, a set of false teeth "disappeared" overnight from a bedside table, prompting the gummy owner to file a claim form.
Kevin Sinclair, managing director of AA Insurance, said: "We are used to receiving conventional claims for car damage or handbag theft, but it is always interesting to hear the more unusual claims people make.
"It just goes to show you need to ensure you are covered for all eventualities, however far-fetched they might seem."
