A ROW has blown up over a claim a prominent Manchester Muslim has defended the execution of sexually-active gay people as "justified".
Arshad Misbahi, a junior Imam at the city's Central Mosque is alleged to have confirmed that it is an acceptable punishment in Iraq and Iran.
His comments are said to have been made to psychotherapist Dr John Casson who is researching the persecution of gays in Islamic states. But they have been condemned as "encouraging conflict between the area's large gay and Muslim communities.
Witnesses
Dr Casson said: "He told me that in a true Islamic state, such punishments were part of Islam if the person had had a trial, at which four witnesses testified that they had seen the actual homosexual acts."
He went on: "I asked him what would be the British Muslim view and he repeated that in an Islamic state these punishments were justified.
"They might result in the deaths of thousands, but if this deterred millions from having sex and spreading disease, then it was worthwhile to protect the wider community."
It is understood Imam Misbahi believes his comments were taken out of context and misrepresented. He says will be issuing a statement to clarify his views.

But I don't think that even Christians who believe every word of the Bible is inspired by God consider that homosexuals should be executed.

Danish newspaper prints joke "cartoon" of the prophet Mohahmed and worldwide riots take place. The embassy is attacked and the Muslim faith is again the "hard done to" Martyr.
Arshad Misbahi says that the execution of gays is justified and it gets third place headline in the Manchester rag.
Why don't the gay/lesbian/trans community WORLDWIDE now give a bit back. Why should they not? This act alone is far worse than the Straw and cartoon episodes combined tenfold.
There is no room in this country for these beliefs.
The situation at the minute reminds me of the spoilt kid at school who would cry to the teacher all the time, want his own way and sulk at the slightest thing but the teacher would always stick up for him and he could not do no wrong.

With any luck, our country will soon be restored to the long suffering majority of its population, and its over publicised minorities will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

This so called "free country" seems to be listening to more and more muslim views and opinions rather than the views of our own.
The majority of the gay community,im sure practice safe sex these days.
What about the carriers of HIV and AIDS.."straight people may i add" over in Africa? Would these people share the same punishment? I dont think so.Some people should just keep their views to themselves, and worry about the goings on in their Islamic States.

Leat anyone worship his/her god as he/she wishes, but don't try to foist your views on anyone else.

Some of you mentioned that this iman was trying to impose his views on us? Sorry, am I being thick? Where actually did he do that?
Like some posters have mentioned, different groups and even individuals all have their own opinions on homosexuality.
Some of you should try reading the whole story first, comprehend it and then make a comment - not just jump on the bandwagon at the first sight of an ethnic story!

If you don't like the way we do things in our country, then by all means go to either Iraq or Iran, but I you'll find that they don't have social security or free housing in those countries!
