These yobs who use , what is in essence, explosives should be jailed for 6 months. Where I am the local feral yobs have been launching rockets at houses, should be jailed for endangering lives, 18 months should do it. Bring back national service. If any yobs get an asbo - 2 years automatic national service. Should sort them out.

Fireworks were going off until past 10.30 last night causing car and house alarms to go off

Fining is NO GOOD;shops should have fireworks confiscated and destroyed and refusal to licence those for future sales ever again,adults and teens buying for youngsters should be banned from buying fireworks ever again and named and shamed to all fireworks retailers with pix and dteails and should be jailed for 5 years, and people and young people who throw/misuse fireworks should be locked up. A ban on sale and use will only lead to illegal sale and use of unsafe fireworks/importing from other countries via the Internet or visits to Europe for illegal sale and/or use/rogue traders flogging unsafe fireworks via the blackmarket and people trying to make their own fireworks from internet how to pages and household substance and legal pyrotechnics resulting in damage/injury and death to the people making and using them and/or spectators watching these dangerous homemade devices.

Why don't they just ban them??? It's going to happen sooner or later (do you really think we'll be playing with hand-held explosives in 50-years time?) so why not get it over and done with. Of course they'll be black market imports, but at least the local cider drinking yobs won't be able to just pop into their local newsagent and buy them over the counter. Anything more taxing than that and they probably just won't bother - too much like hard work.

Yeah Paul, your idea of an outright ban on legal retail sales of fireworks resulting in sales and illegal use of unsafe lethal powerful and possibly deadly import fireworks to replace legal shop-sales of safe BS7114 retail shop fireworks is what we need isn't it along with people getting hold of them from abroad selling them to any Tom, Dick and Harry irrespective of age etc, rogue traders and criminal gangs selling these poor quality fireworks underground via the unregulated unstoppable blackmarket trade, and people trying foolhardingly to make their own from internet how to pages,household substances and legal pyrotechnic tampering eh? I would rather jail the yobs and irresponsible parents who let their kids mess with fireworks by way of prison sentences then name and shame those people who buy for the children and young people by way of pix and details to every firework retailer up and down the land and ban them from buying fireworks ever again and put their details on a firework hooligan database which will be distributed to every firework retailer in the UK so that they don't get to buy and face instant prison for attempting to buy fireworks whether for themselves/family or underage when they have been banned from doing so by law. I would also(for EVERY FIRST OFFENCE OF ILLEGAL SELLING NO EXCEPTIONS) confiscate the retailers stocks of fireworks from shops who sell to underage or sell equally to people buying for underage and destroy them THEN revoke those retailers licences and bar them from EVER REGISTERING TO SELL FIREWORKS EVER AGAIN. My actions would create ZERO TOLERANCE AND WOULD INDICATE THAT ILLEGAL SELLING OF FIREWORKS AND ILLEGAL MISUSE OF FIREWORKS BY YOUNGSTERS AND PEOPLE GENERALLY WILL GET YOU A JAIL SENTENCE AND REMOVE THE RIGHT OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS TO EVER ENJOY SET OFF AND USE FIREWORKS EVER AGAIN AND FOR SHOPS IT WOULD MEAN INSTANT FORFEITURE OF THE RIGHT TO SELL FIREWORKS TO THE PUBLIC EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that this country just sits back when most of the people want something ? Like banning fireworks and people who want hanging and corporal punishment back.People have been asking for a total ban on the sale of fireworks and back a council run fireworks display? Its typical of this country .We dont control things we just sit back and watch?

You think councils are gonna fork out hundreds of thousands of pounds to fund hundreds of council run firework displays/bonfire events Ace Riley? Fat chance of that and I'll tell you why;years ago there used to be hundreds of bonfire/firework events across the UK but nowadays a lot of council and village run bonfire/firework events have stopped through the years because the costs of public liability insurance which is NECESSARY in case an accident to spectators happens etc is very costly nowadays(and premiums have shot up because of terrorist threats and activities) and also the blame and compensation culture of having to pay out in the event of an accident has also put a stop to a lot of them. We need retail sales of fireworks and sales of DIY display kits so that tenants associations etc who run these events can do it easily without having to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds for professional companies to do it for them.

Ace Riley,you may be interested to know over the years hundreds of village parish council and town council firework/bonfire events have diminished and stopped because of the rocketing costs of public-liability insurance(which IS absolutely necessary in case anyone gets hurt) and the current blame/claim compensation culture which puts local authorities in fear because a lot are frightened that something will go wrong resulting in a claim for accidental injury at the event(s). Also do you think that councils up and down the land in every town/village are going to fund public bonfires/firework displays costing hundreds of thousands of pounds when a lot are on budgetry restraints? We need retail sales of fireworks and diy kits so that tenants associations/pubs etc can organise shows at less cost than getting a firework display company in to do it costing hundreds of thousands of pounds. Money doesn't grow on trees and you don't seem to realise that-the old saying"if you can't afford a firework display company to come and fire your show, then you shouldn't have one at all" is irrelevant in this day and age where funds are often limited.

I agree with Naz, fines do not bother these brain dead morons who incidentally are not confined to a particular region but are active nationwide.Why not confine the sale of fireworks to the Job Center as most of these lunatics would not know how or where to find one!!!!!!!!

Ban the sale of fireworks to the public, all displays to be local authority bought and organised, personally i cant see the fascination in them..

anthony accrington, please read my comments properly. i stated that morons who are letting off fireworks all through the night and causing damage were the problem, and i did in fact state that organised firework display would be preferred, i dont rant, i have 4 kids who love firework displays, but the object of the topic was people who abuse fireworks and cause distress and danger.my neighbour had a firework thrown into her hallway and landed in her childs pram. that is the folk i am referring to.Enjoy your fireworks anthony i am sure you are not as idiotic as the people i was referring to.yobs!!!

I use fireworks properly and all those who use them properly safely and considerately SHOULD be allowed to continue using them DON'T TAR ALL FIREWORKS USERS WITH THE SAME BRUSH BECAUSE WE ARE NOT ALL IDIOTS WITH FIREWORKS!
