Menezes: MET face health and safety charges

THE Metropolitan Police is to be prosecuted under health and safety laws over the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, sources said today.

The organisation will face a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 over the 27-year-old's death on July 22 last year at Stockwell Tube station in south London, it was revealed.

But no individual police officers will be charged over the innocent Brazilian's fatal shooting, the sources added.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Crown Prosecution Service, which will make its official announcement at midday.
