Cameron aims to take Manchester

TORY leader David Cameron has confirmed that Manchester is on his battle plan to win the next General Election.

He said the city had to be won over if the Tories were to have a chance of defeating Tony Blair - in contrast to former leader Michael Howard, who suggested that winning seats in the north was irrelevant.

Mr Cameron has already made Tatton MP George Osborne the "Shadow Minister" for Manchester.

CAN Cameron take Manchester? Have your say.

Possibly, if he commits to bottom-up reform in the public sector. Labour have ignored the views of workers in the emergency services, education, health etc and instead have only listened to marketisation and privatisation obsessed management consultants who are creaming-off funds much needed for direct public services. Step 2 - provide the money for the full Metrolink expansion, without recourse to expensive PFI agreements or making the Council and PTE take out loans. Around 3 times more money is spent per head on transport in London than the north. This disparity needs readdressing.

I find David Cameron a thoroughly loathesome individual. He is one of the "Notting Hill set" whose map of the UK probably states "there be dragons" outside of the M25, so any attempt to win over the electorate of Manchester should be seen as the cynical, single-minded attempt to win votes it so obviously is. He doesn't give tuppence about us other than for where we put our X on the ballot papers; so don't fall for it, people. (Witness, also, his pathetic attempts to win over the green vote by installing a wind turbine on his house and by being seen cycling on occasion -- completely unstaged, of course...)

John, London....Why should people in Manchester vote Conservative when their Labour councillors have delivered so spectacularly over the last few years? Do you advocate that voters in Lambeth and Brent also 'think for themselves' or is it just Mancunians that you assume are incapable of doing so?
Unless you have a very short memory, or you're just very young, the Tories have a history of not giving a damn about the north of England. They're traditionally a party for wealthy suburbs/home counties, even more so than this current champagne socialist administration.

I don't vote Labour myself, because I'm not a socialist, but I do recognise their economic achievements.
