River hunt for missing teacher

A YOUNG teacher has vanished on a stag night.

Police divers were searching a river today for 27-year-old Peter Turns, who teaches at Fallibroome High in Macclesfield.

He was out with friends in Leeds when he got into an argument.

He was last seen running towards the River Aire in the city centre early on Sunday morning. Peter, who is married and lives in Marple, Stockport, has not been seen or heard of since.

West Yorkshire Police were expected to release CCTV footage later today which they hope may have captured Peter's last known movements. It is believed he may have been standing on the bonnet of a car before a member of the public remonstrated with him. Richard Hipperson, chair of governors at Fallibroome High, said: "He is a popular member of staff. I just hope and pray he is found safely."

Trip

Peter, who is originally from Sunderland, had travelled to Leeds from Tyne and Wear.

A police spokeswoman said he had been in Sunderland with his wife as they were preparing to leave for a skiing trip with his parents days later.

He travelled to Leeds for the friend's stag night and later failed to meet his father Frank as arranged, at the local Premier Inn Hotel where he had been staying.

Det Supt Paul Taylor said an intensive search was was now underway.

He said: "It is believed that Peter may have been standing on the bonnet of a car before a member of the public remonstrated with him.

"After this disturbance, Peter is believed to have run away towards the River Aire. He has not been seen since."

Myself and the rest of Mr Turn's ICT groups hope and pray that he is found safe and sound. He is a very good teacher who is extremely popular with pupils.
Our thoughts go out to his wife and family.
We all just really hope that he is ok.

Mr Turns used to teach myself and some friends at St Chad's Catholic High school before moving on. He taught me for 3 years and i must say those 3 were my most memorable of ICT. He is a great teacher and i hope a miracle happens and he turns up safe and sound.

Hi, I would just like 2 say on behalf of Runcorn that he is a well missed teacher from St Chads and he made lots of friends at the school who will never forget him, He used to teach me and my friends before he left. He always knew how to make us laugh or smile, even if we were really down and behind with our IT coursework, He would still know how to make us smile. St Chads Community is devastated by this news. My thoughts are with the family and friends of this fine man x x

Mr Turns was our son's form teacher from Sept 2004 until July 2005 at St Chad's School in Runcorn. He is a lovely man who got on so well with his pupils and seemed to really be on their level. He was very supportive of our son and offered great encouragement. They often joked about their use of hair gel. We are now living in Kiev, Ukraine working at the British Embassy and Mr Turns offered advice and good support about the education system available here to our son.

We are all deeply upset by this terrible news and can only pray that there is a good outcome. Mr Turns is well loved and our love and thoughts go out to his family at this terrible time and to his students past and present who will be as deeply shocked by this news as we are.

I go to Fallibroome High School, the school Peter taught at. Basically I just really hope he's found. He has never taught me, but it's awful when something like this happens to someone you see on a regular basis at school. My heart goes out to Peter's family, I can only try to understand how hard it is for them.
