DRAMA: The woman being treated under the tram.

AN ELDERLY woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a tram this afternoon.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary after being hit outside Burger King on Mosley Street, Piccadilly Gardens, at 1.33pm.

Services were temporarily disrupted.

Danm those cars, 3500 dead last year. oops i forgot no body cares, but a couple run over by a tram. shock horror, disaster, aghhhhhhh! Step back take a deep breath be reasonable, they are infact very very safe!

I'm glad to hear the old lady is OK, but people really should be more careful where they walk. especially in the city centre.

Perhaps Metrolink can improve the signs that should warn people of such things

I assume she didn't see the 45m long and 5m high tram coming along at about 10km/h???

Out of interest, I look forward to the MEN reporting on all other traffic accidents that involve 'minor injuries' that have been caused by buses and cars since I'm sure they are not wanting to sensationalise tram accidents are they?

sad that this story maybe be, but didn't she look before she was crossing? It's not as though the tram was speeding down the tracks.

It's not the Trams fault. we blast our horn to warn people that we are coming but they just walk infront of us, the worst offenders are people on Mobile phones or Listening to there I-Pod. trams can't move out of the way but people can, try looking where the tram tracks are! it's surprising but the trams follow the tracks!

Jack from Chorlton, never mind damn those trams!!!, all it takes is a look left and right, basic simple road safety, trams are not cars we cant swerve around ok?, every day us drivers have to slam on because people are completely oblivious to us, heads down, yappin on mobiles, listening to walkmans........oh but it those damn trams isnt it?!!!....blame us cos its us that hit people not people walkin in front of us, some see us approaching and still walk in front of us, some run right across our path.......if anything its damn those pedestrians ......my 2 yr has more road sense!!!.

What is the world coming to when you can't do a bit of shopping without being hit by a tramp? I think they should bring back national service. That'd teach 'em!

Lets face the fact, these are not trams they are trains. Why the health and safety executive allowed these through the centre of town bewilders me.

Sad to hear that someone has been run over walking across tram tracks. Pheww. It could have been me running her over with my bus when she walked out in front of me 20 seconds later.!! At least I would have known she wasn't on a mobile walking out looking the other way with her head down,m or looking at me and walking straight out in front of me. One day perhaps one of the bus companies will release footage from one of the video cameras which are fitted to the front of the bus showung what really goes on, or perhaps the bus passengers themselves can relate the stories once they have got their noses off the windscreens after an emergency stop. The worst part of this story is what I saw. All the rubber-neckers. There must have been at least 60-70 people standing there watching, whilst the fire brigade were trying to get through. Those sickos should have had a water canon turned on them.Never mind, mabe it's one way of getting your picture in the paper... Anyone here checked to see if they are now famous?

looks like another golden opportunity for metrolink to put the prices up yet again to pay for the cleaning fluid to clean up the blood.

Come on it really is time to get rid of this overpriced poor excuse of public transport.

What ever the circumstances an elderly lady has been injured no one is pointing the blame but surely we should feel compassion for her she didn't mean to get her self knocked down.

I've worked in the city centre for 5 years, and in that time I've seen more people run over than in the previous 40 odd years of my life. I can say that the sound of contact between a vehicle and a human being is sickening. Many pedestrians have an arrogance that leads them to think they can just walk out into the roads without a thought. Conversely, I see many stupid car drivers using Oxford Street as a racing track. This is of course the "I want to be first" stupid mentality. Often these appear to be well-heeled middle-aged people, not just boy-racers. Town is a very dangerous place.
