Anger at sentence for death driver

A HEARTBROKEN family has hit out at the law after an illegal driver who killed a three-year-old girl was jailed for just 12 weeks.

Levi Bleasdale was killed when run over by Mohammed Hussain, 26, in Burnley last September.

Hussain was driving a stolen VW Golf, had only a provisional licence and no insurance.

He admitted failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. Hussain also admitted careless driving, an offence which does not carry a prison sentence, at Burnley Magistrates' Court last Friday.

Banned

Levi's heartbroken family angrily hit out at the law after Hussain was jailed for just 12 weeks. The maximum sentence he could have received under the current law is six months jail. He was banned from driving for five years. Her mother, Kirsty Ryan, 22, said: "He's wrecked my daughter's life and he's wrecked my family's life."

Levi's family are reportedly planning to appeal over the sentence.

Road safety charity, Brake said: "The sentence does not even begin to reflect the devastation he has caused the Bleasdale family."

If the car was stolen as stated and he was charged with aggravated taking of a vehicle - the matter could of been sent to Crown Court where he could have been given a sentence in years rather than weeks.
The law also needs to be changes so that someone who drives a vehicle despite never having taken a test can be charged with "dangerous driving" - on the basis that they are not qualified to drive 1/2 ton of speeding metal - the sentence on "No Insurance" also needs increasing to include an imprisonment option on its own

It isn't a "law", it's a joke, and a very sick one at that. But will anyone step forward and justify it and account for it? No,of course they won't! Can you imagine these so-called law-makers sitting round and discussing it - eg "I'll tell you what, if someone who can't drive steals a car (or some other vehicle) and then drives at excessive speed and kills a little girl and totally devastates the family of the little girl and destroys their live's, how about we give them a sentence of six weeks in prison. That sounds about right, doesn't it. All agreed?"

12 weeks? Did I read that right? It speaks volumes when you can go to prision for a very long stealing money or fraud, however, you kill a child and destroy a families life and you get 12 weeks! It goes to show that the law, the country and powers that be value money more than human life! Fact....... Disgraceful...........

In my previous post I parodied the so-called law-makers and, in so doing, referred to six weeks. It was of course twelve weeks. But then again, what's the difference! Even TWELVE YEARS would have been lenient in most peoples view!!

Just about everyone reading this story - either on this website or in the press - will have thought that Hussain was sentenced to 12 weeks for killing someone - in this case a 3-year old little girl. But he wasn't! The 12 week sentence was for stealing a vehicle and "careless driving" and failing to stop at the scene and for driving without a license and insurance. The fact that he killed someone didn't even enter into it. Dumbfounded! (well you more than likely were already when you thought he had got such an unbelievably lenient sentence for killing someone). It happens all the time, only we don't get to hear about it the vast majority of the time, and more often than not, the 'road killers' don't even get a custodial sentence. Just a fine and a driving ban.

Was Hussain driving in a manner which endangered other peoples lives? Of course he was! And then he killed a three-year old little girl as a result and totally devastated her family. So how on this earth could his driving be construed as 'careless'. Will someone please stand up and explain how it is that it was, because there are tens of millions of people who would like to know!

How "careless" of him to drive at 48mph (approx) in a 30mph limit and kill a little girl! How many times have we read about cases like this where a 'road killer' gets a prison sentence of just a few months.

ALL young people who drive like this and kill or seriously injure somebody without insurance licence etc should be JAILED FOR LIFE NO EXCEPTION. And stuff the soft judges who say differently;their light minded justice sentences handed out means nothing, especially to the families/relatives/friends of those killed.

Anthony: I assume that you meant 'Anyone' who drives at excessive speed and kills or seriously injures one or more people "SHOULD BE JAILED FOR LIFE..."?

This is unbelieveable and an outrage - in view of the Gov wanting children to wear seat belts up to age 11 etc to protect the child IN a car how come the law does not bring justice to see children are protected OUTSIDE from cars.
