EGGY: Kelly.

A MANCHESTER man will appear in court today charged with common assault after Education Secretary Ruth Kelly was pelted with an egg.

Michael Downes, 44, of Foxfield Road, Wythenshawe, will appear before Salford magistrates.

The incident happened after Ms Kelly had left Salford Magistrates' Court in Greater Manchester yesterday, in connection with a case against a fathers' rights protester who received a two-year suspended sentence for his part in a previous attack on her at an election rally last April.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said last night: "Michael Downes has been charged with common assault and remanded in custody to appear at Salford Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning."

This may be a control freak government, with unsympathetic and even cold hearted ministers inhabiting its deep and dark recesses, but the previous comments only show the lack of sophistication of many of the people that their policies hit at, and we all wonder why they dismiss our protestations so glibly? There are ways and means to show our distaste for their policies, without resorting to the lowest common denominator.

She should take into account people who have read about her allowing teachers to teach after they have serious sex offences in their background .What the hell does she expect people to think of her? Nobody likes people like her.Never mind these poor sods who are not allowed to see their kids "Who would speak for them" Nobody so they have to stand up and be counted .but this legal system will not help them only crush them .. What a garbage legal system that we have in britain "It looks after the guilty and crushes the innocent" We have seen this happen this week in london .

In Spanish, the word for eggs is huevos. Huevos is also slang for testicular fortitude. Mike Downes has plenty of both.
Please know that fathers in America support the notion that children need both parents.

Shame on society for making these men take this course of action. If a woman were to do the same to show contempt for the law, and defend her right to see her children, I doubt it would even get to court. History will judge these cases as barbaric. Anyone who thinks that these men enjoy doing these kinds of thing must be mad.

Michael Downes is a hero. He also has shown great restraint. Egg on your face and hair is nothing to the suffering he and many men around Britain and the World have had to endure at the hands of the tyranny of the Governments and their policy's. Children every day are at risk of suicide, bad grades, depression, drug use and sexual predators - all because they are made fatherless. Let this be another wake up call to fix the system before someone really does lose it and all hell breaks loose. Well done Michael - your a legend son! Keep the faith as you have truth on your side. It is unfortunate that men must resort to this type of action but ask yourself this question....
What would you be willing to do if your children were taken from you and all other avenues have failed? Be glad it was just an egg.

When politicians such as Ruth Kelly (woman) or not puts themselves in the fireing line and is responsible for peadophiles teaching our children when decent honest men can't even see their kids,then they deserve to be pelted with eggs.it wasn't a brick, a bullet, or a bomb, it was an egg.

i say good on you lad for sticking up for the justice you and all fathers deserve i am a birth mother who had her child took at 2days old told she was blind at birth then some 33yrs later was looking at the deaths in local paper only to find my daughters name and was bieng cremated un known to me only for the advert i was able to go see her in funeral parlour and then to crem
wasnt contacted by s/s to say she was in care nor had any visitation rights from them now im fighting for her ashes and files
wot kind of ppl are theses social workers
werent they mothers at some time and didnt there children have fathers who would fight for justice in the same circumstances my child was my love from day 1 2nd day she was taken away all becos i asked for help from theses ppl and was given some food vouchers next thing i know they were all over me

I think it's absolutely appalling for a caring and loving Father such as Mike Downes be sent to jail for throwing an egg at an mp.As Ruth Kelly said herself, it comes with being a politician.If anybody should be jailed it should be the resident parent (usually)the mother for constantly breaking court orders and being allowed to flout the law time and time again.The children not only miss out on a father but grandparents,aunties,uncles,cousins,stepfamilies and new siblings.So many lives are affected.How dare the government turn a deaf ear to this? The law has to change.

If an egg cant get the message across what can? Meringue is whats in the heads of politicians these days as they ignore the fundamental need of the child for access to each and both parents EQUALLY. Politicians use the 'egg' to engage in extortion of the people in order to perpetrate the finanical fleecing of anyone who dares to make a baby and then take the matter of the care and control of that child before ravenous greed of barrister run system.Release Mike Downes.

Val, your comments are so poor and unrequired. You need to read the story a little bit more careful, Miss Kelly refused extra security.....makes a change for a MP nopt wanting to waste money, secondly, for them to use their guns for this stunt would have caused more trouble for the great GMP. They can't afford the bloody bullets for a start.......

John taylor, I would expect that mike with expection to take his punishment, but, you got to laugh when a man, who was in charge of 500 people lives as a pilot was charged with Drinking in excess and he was released on bail.

Also, on a personal note, I ahve spent ??70,000 on legal fees and court costs to try and see m,y daughter, I have court orders in my favour but my ex wife has totally ignored these and decided not to agree to these orders, she has broken 20 such orders, was she jailed, NO!!!! was she jailed for the ??34,000 fraud she took out in my name!!! was she given a fine, community service, NO! so why should Mike be remanded on the say so of the CPS for a charge unrelated to this.

Finally for this posting, well done Mike & Elaine, we will be there to support you on the 28th February at Trafford, wonder if we will see all those policeman again.............
