Kelly attacked by egg-thrower

DUCK: Kelly during the incident.

EDUCATION Secretary Ruth Kelly was pelted with an egg as she turned up at a court.

Ms Kelly was struck on the head with the missile as she arrived at Salford Magistrates' Court where she was due to appear as a witness in the trial of Fathers 4 Justice protester Simon Wilmot-Coverdale.

Wilmot-Coverdale is due on trial over an alleged incident in which eggs were thrown at Ms Kelly while she addressed an audience in Bolton last year.

As she approached the court, Ms Kelly ducked as the egg was hurled at her.

Just goes to show this government can't control everything.
I'm glad she wasn't hurt but she is a member of one of the most devious and unpopular governments ever and for that alone deserved a good egging!

Not really funny & certainly not even slightly productive. I have a lot of support for Fathers4justice & what they are trying to do but this is just stupid. It might have been a harmless egg that hit her & there is ceratinly no damage done but the way things are going, next time, it could be some nutter with a brick. Im sure it was upsetting & a little shocking for Ms Kelly & its just not on.

I would think she will get enough 'egg on her face' when her ridiculous education 'reform' proposals come up in the House of Commons and she has to rely on Conservative votes to push them through.

Once again, Fathers 4 Justice show their pleasant and reasonable nature. Kidnapping clearly not an option this time, but sometimes you have to make do don't you?

Ruth Kelly has no jurisdiction over matters relating to family access yet the group have continually targetted her anyway. I wonder why? Why not, say John Prescott? Could it be that they are in fact violent, cowardly misogynists, who have been denied access to their children for a very good reason? Just a thought.

We can only hope that Governments in the UK AND the USA will start to listen to the plights of fathers before the protests get any worse. I don't condone this type of protest but what else can fathers do? The morons just don't get it!

It's ok. To everybody who feels that this was a violent act against women, it wasn't, it was an attack against Ruth Kelly who represents this Government, as do all Ministers. Their handling of the failing of Family Law and lack of investment in families in transition is scandalous. These brave activists get my vote everytime. Nobody was harmed, and eggs are a popular way for Jo Public to express in strong terms their disgust and disrespect of MPs.

Government disclaimer:
No women or children where harmed in the making of this protest. Although 1000's of families are harmed each year due to the Governments inability to support children and their parents during difficult personal tragedies. That is where the shame and finger pointing must go. Well done Real F4J.

some people have said waste of a good egg I agree should have used 50 rotting ones instead. I am currently going through the process myself, and my contact of 1 hour a week has yet again been stopped by the ex. For no good reason. So now I have to return to court and get another order even more airtight than the first. The frustration shown by these fathers is justified, and I hope to more of this kind of thing until I and other dads like me get what should be justice in the courts.

Ruth Kelly minster for DfES, also responsible for family law reform and policy. She signed off the Green Paper "Parental Separation: Children??TMs Needs and Parents??TM Responsibilities", which does nothing to invest or help families in crisis or prevent the crisis in the first place. Additionally she is responsible for Education and School policy relating to how to deal with separated parents. None of the policies or recommendations respect a non-resident fathers Parental Responsibility, and many good fathers are being excluded not only from a healthy relationship with their children and vice versa, but also from being actively involved in their education and development. The government says it wants fathers to be involved in schooling but that only seems to be ok if in an intact family or the mother allows you to. That is why Ruth Kelly is a valid target to highlight the government??TMs failings in family friendly policy.
