Macclesfield council - which covers Alderley Edge and Wilmslow - has introduced a new collection scheme to boost the amount of rubbish it recycles.
TV presenter Jenny Powell, who lives in Little Bollington, says homeowners are furious at the switch.
The new rotational scheme collects recyclable material one week and general household rubbish the next.
Celebrities affected by the change include Coronation Street stars Simon Gregson (Steve MacDonald), William Roache (Ken Barlow), Samia Smith (hairdresser Maria Sutherland) and former star Denise Welch (Natalie Barnes).
Football personalities in the area include Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney, as well as Manchester City striker Andy Cole.
The scheme, introduced to help the council hit government targets for recycling, has already got up the nose of TV star Jenny, who appeared on the Wheel of Fortune.
She was left with bags of stinking rubbish outside her home after the Christmas festivities.
She said: "I know they are trying to make us more aware of rubbish, but one bin every two weeks is not enough.
"I pay £2,500 council tax and it is not good enough. I have had 17 people here for Christmas dinner and eight people stay over for a week.
"There were about 10 bags and they were piling up. They stunk.
"I phoned the council to ask them to take them away, but no one did." A Macclesfield council spokesman said: "At Christmas time, a large amount of rubbish is produced, but a lot of it is recyclable and there are tips if any one has to get rid of the excess.
"The council tax only covers the emptying of one wheelie bin.
"A lot of people do produce a lot of extra rubbish at Christmas and it has come as quite a shock to some that it is their rubbish and their responsibility."

okay... so celebrities think that a 2 week collection is rubbish? I think someone should drive home the message that they're just as responsible for recycling as 'Joe Public' is... status says nothing when it comes to being somewhat greener. I recycle as much as I can because I live in a 2 week collection area - and you know something? I actually feel BETTER for it because it makes me feel like I've giving back a little of what I've taken.
Makes me wonder what these celebrities are doing to accumulate large piles of rubbish...
There are always some recycling facilities somewhere - supermarkets, pub carparks and the likes - charity shops will take unwanted clothing.. and I'm sure there are furniture stations that will take in unwanted other things...
I'm not surprised at how naive they are and that they hadn't probably understood the implemented procedure, or found ways to cut back on waste creation.
They're no different to you or I on the street... yet, their mentality often gives the game away.
I'd volunteer my services gladly in helping defenceless and naive celebs to cut back on waste or how to minimise it - which some celebs are busy glorifying by advocating, yet can't carry out themselves.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Celebs? STOP WHINING AND THINK ABOUT IT!!!
Don't delegate your duty as a human to the council over your lack of forethought!!!
I entirly agree! I have been allocated a bigger bin because we are a family of 6 and I ensure I recycle but I am going to the local tip once a week, twice during christmas/ new year, to drop off excess black bag rubbish. We too are top council tax payers, not that makes any difference, we all are struggling with the new policy apart from my neighbour who claimed to be a family of 6 when infact thay are only 3 when their daughter is away at boarding school! honesty does not pay!
Bolton Council have been doing this for weeks now and I agree, it is a real pain in the neck. Bolton people have complained about it but it seems you have to be a celebrity to make it news. I pay my council tax too and just because I can't "quite" make Z list Celebrity Big Brother doesn't mean my complaints should fall on deaf ears.
We've had to put up with a two-weekly rubbish collection in Rossendale for nearly 2 years. I agree, in theory, about the issue of recycling, but it doesn't work. The streets are an eyesore for several days before collections - piles of smelly bin bags, as well as the bins overflowing. An absolute eyesore. But I bet, because it's Cheshire, and it affects "celebrities" this idea will get shelved. Pity the same can't happen here!!
SHOCKER. Because they're celebs then they think they have more of a right to rubbish collection than other people??! We have a family of 6 and have our rubbish collected every week, which amounts to half a wheelie bin full. We recycle everything that we can. Maybe the celebs should use some of their wealth to find a chauffeur to drive to the nearest household recycling site.
Poor Jenny Powell(and the other overpaid celebrities and footballers ) having to put up with piles of stinking rubbish due to Macclesfield Borogh Council axing weekly collections.
Jenny and all you other overpaid stars I suggest you get a composter which I am sure you will be able to site comfortably in your big gardens.
You lot would be the first to complain if a landfill or incinerator was sited in your neighbourhood. Being a celebrity and paying lots of council tac doesnt give you the moral right to pollute this planet with your extravagant lifestyles.
All these councils seem to be interested in is increasing the rat population. We have a collection every other week and its been absolutely stinking this summer. There were rats the size of squirrels. Environmentally friendly? we'll all end up with the plague.
Good grief, you get a tv has been to highlight the problem and all you can do is complain. Giver her your support and backing then see what happens instead of having a go because she used to be on telly.
This is not just a problem in Macclesfield and affluent areas! I think people should be held responsible for the rubbish they create. They should re-cycle and not just generate piles of rubbish! Therefore I support the 'two Bin' system. However, all rubbish should be collected weekly. Health and hygine is as impotant as well as a sound and sustainable re-cyling policy. Collect both bins every week, however, if the refuse men find general rubbish in re-cycle bins or visa-versa, the council should fine the house hold! Easy! Both a clean policy with regards to hygine, and a good enforcemnet measure to get people to think about the environment. I used to live in germany, this country is in the dark ages reference our refuse issues!
The average council spends about 5% of "your" council tax on refuge collection and disposal. So on a B#2,500 tax bill it cost just over B#2 a week - which is a bargain! for the councils to try and save a few pounds on possibly the most efficient service they provide is the wong option.
Why the fuss? I live in a family of four. By using recycling services (and they're not the best on offer) we only ever half fill a 240-litre wheelie bin. So a fortnightly collection isn't a problem. And if there's too much waste, surely Wayne or Colleen, Jenny or whoever, can find the time to take a few bin bags to the tip! I wonder how much of Jenny's 10 bags could have been recycled, if she could be bothered?Macclesfield, home of the wealthy whinging.
well bless my soul - someone has the gall to stand up to non list celebrities, why dont you get in your car and take it to the local tip yourself, very easy and very simple.
