LIZ Forgan - head of the trust which owns the Guardian Media Group - is made a dame in today's list.

Ms Forgan, herself a former journalist, chairs the Scott Trust, which oversees the Guardian and Observer newspapers in addition to the Manchester Evening News and other media businesses.

She has also been chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund since 2001, having previously been managing director of BBC Radio.

Her honour is made for services to broadcasting and heritage.
