Joyrider, 11, ruins family Christmas

A PREGNANT mum and her two children are facing a bleak Christmas after an 11-year-old joyrider wrecked their Stretford home.

Jade Hart and her kids Leah, seven, and Kai, six, were forced to move out of their semi-detached council home after a car crashed through their front window into the room where the children were playing.

Jade, 26, who is seven months pregnant, says they have been let down by the Trafford Housing Trust who provided temporary accommodation which is "dirty" and "daubed with graffiti".

She said: "The house is completely unsuitable. We've had to live off takeaways for a week because the kitchen's too dirty to cook in. All there is in the property are beds, a sofa and kitchen appliances.

"There's nothing for the children to do. They can't play outside because the yard is not safe. We're not allowed to bring any of our furniture here or our dog Cash, but can't go back to our home because the trust says it's not safe.

"We just want to go home but will probably have to stay here until the New Year while our house is fixed."

Unsuitable

Jade, who recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in history and politics, says she was offered other properties - one in Old Trafford, which would mean her catching four buses to take the children to school, and a flat up several flights of stairs.

She said: "I don't want to slam the trust because it has tried help, but the house it has provided is not suitable for young children. The trust has now agreed to clean it though.

"I'm just angry that an 11-year-old driving a car has left us in this position."

Claire Tyrrell, Trafford Housing Trust area services manager, said: "This is an extremely unfortunate incident.

"We did everything possible to find Ms Hart suitable accommodation and we will ensure that she returns home as soon as possible.

"Since the accident, Ms Hart was offered alternative accommodation at Shrewsbury Court and Moss Park Road. Before accepting Glastonbury Road, she was also offered a temporary property in Gatley Road, Sale, until this accommodation was ready for her.

"While our homelessness team have been working with her, Ms Hart has also received help from our emergency call out team who attended her house on the night of the accident and our neighbourhood repairs officer, who arranged for work to be carried out the following day.

"There is currently a waiting list of at least six months for suitable family properties in Trafford, and almost 7,000 applicants are on that list.

"Given the circumstances, we feel we are doing everything possible to help Ms Hart and her children. We will ensure that her home is repaired and fit to return to as a matter of priority."

So, she's only complaining because the kitchen's too dirty and the yard's a mess - and that's enough for her to ask for another place?

Perhaps she should make an effort herself - a broom for the yard and stuff to clean the kitchen isn't expensive. It takes *effort* though, doesn't it?

More so than complaining anyway.

Perhaps Alan from Hulme would like to help a seven month pregnant woman clean and offer to take her children to school rather than expect her to get on four buses? I doubt if the cleaning part is an issue. She was settled before and an 11 year old has caused the problem. His family should be extremely ashamed to have allowed their child to put someone in this position.

This article refers to an "accident" i wouldn't call this an "accident"! The 11 year old could have killed himself or worse still the two youngsters in their family home.
I am so glad that they are alive and well enough to tell the story and i do sympathise with the family being put in this situation.
Bring in stiffer punishments to stop these kids doing these mindless acts on our roads.
Time for a short, sharp shock treatment for these wayward kids, it's long overdue.

WHAT THE H**L IS AN ELEVEN YEAR OLD DOING WITH A CAR. WHERE DID HIS PARENTS THINK HE WAS. GET THE ELEVEN YEAR OLD AND HIS PARENTS TO HELP CLEAR UP THE MESS. THEN GROUND HIM FOR THE NEXT YEAR. PARENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THERE KIDS. BEFORE HE KILLS SOMEONE BY A CAR.

WELL ALAN A MALE NEVER BEEN PREGNANT. TO BE FORCED OUT OF YOUR HOUSE AT CHRISTMAS IS BAD ENOUGH, BUT HAVING TO CLEAN A HOUSE THROUGHLY AT SEVEN MONTHS IS VERY HARD WORK. ROLL ON WHEN MEN GET PREGNANT. LIFE WILL COME TO A FULL STOP.

HE DESERVES A GOOD HIDING THEN HE AND HIS PARENTS SHOULD BE FORCED TO CLEAN UP AND PAY FOR THE DAMAGE. The parents of this inadequate 11yearold badly behaved misfit should then be imprisoned for 5 years and their kid put into a secure unit also for 5 years, if it hurts them TOUGH!!! It will serve them right;you should keep an eye on your kids AND control them

The house where this lady and her famiy live is a house in which i used to live.
That house still has graffiti all over it, since may 2003. The decor and general condition was a wreck. It was a target for local yobs. I think its disgusting the COUNCIL see fit to leave it for so long.If neighbours hoods develop anti social behavior disordered People then perhaps the council should start cleaning up the mess themselves and give some parents a fighting chance, ater all the council own the area, if it was policed more and the housing put people in accepable homes clean, safe, and liveable homes perhaps they won't suffer illness depression and hardship then maybe the people and children won't grow up into anti social disordered folk.
That street was hell on earth and the housing knew it. Why they see fit to put people there in the begining is beyond me.
