In October of last year a Swedish research institute found that mobile phone use was linked to acoustic neuromas on the side usually used for the phone <http://www.imm.ki.se/PDF/Press%20release%20Oct%2013%202004.pdf>
As someone who had such a tumour, and had used mobile phones, and uses them far more now, as we all do, that scared me into buying an earpiece to keep my mobile well away from my head. The tumour cost me my ear on that side (and a great deal more), and I certainly don't want to lose the other. I don't want another tumour at all, it was a dreadful experience. There is a lot more research needed on this. Acoustic neuromas are hidden, often slow-growing, socially and physically debilitating (one can lose the sense of balance, lose the ability to distinguish speech from background noise, lose movement in that side of your face), often misdiagnosed, and they can kill (by bleeding, for example). I would urge people not to risk it - use an earpiece wherever possible.

Whilst I sympathise with people people who have any form of illness, there is no link to ill health and mobile communications what so ever! I also know the is no research that tells us they are safe! The fact is though, Mobiles ommit non-ironising radiation, which means its the type of radiation that doesnt effect anything. Unlike your microwave oven! These things belt out a 1000 watts of ironising radiation and people satnd in front of them for 30 mins whilst cooking!

Also, as an objective observer of this issue, I cant help noticing that most of the groups that object to anyform of mobile comms (like the sighting of masts etc) still like to use thier mobile! Its the NIMBY syndrome (NOT IN MY BACK YARD)! They are far more concerened about thier house resale value than heath issues.

I agree, more research needs to be done, but regardless of the outcome, they are here to stay!
