ANOTHER surge in oil prices has sent the cost of a litre of unleaded petrol over the £1 mark in some areas, the AA Motoring Trust revealed today.
And the trust warned hard-pressed motorists that there was little likelihood of prices coming down soon.
"The average litre price is just under 90p but service stations in remote areas are now charging £1 or more," said the trust's petrol price analyst Ruth Bridger.
Crude oil
She went on: "The price of crude oil has risen from around 58-59 dollars a barrel to 60 dollars and this has meant petrol pump prices have been edging up a daily basis.
"Only two weeks ago the average price was about 1p less than what it is now. We can't see prices coming down in the short-term.
"People were pleased to learn that their mortgage payments would be coming down yesterday but now they are paying more for their petrol, with the price at its peak just as many people are driving away on their summer holidays."
Ms Bridger said the average price for a litre of unleaded was now 89.86p with diesel costing around 94p.
What do you think of the price of petrol? Have your say.

They are getting increased tax from the oil companies as the price rises so we are being screwed both ways.
Remember the look of horror and fear on Blairs face when the fuel protest stopped the country, well its just around the corner once again. The British people have had enough.
