A BOY of 12 has been charged with causing the death of a 14-year-old boy at a secluded beauty spot.

Michael Hillen drowned on his birthday, July 8, in the River Roch.

Police and firefighters were called to Heap Brow, Bury, after the teenager plunged into the river.

A police spokesman confirmed that a 12-year-old boy from the Heywood area was last night charged with manslaughter.

The boy is due to appear before Rochdale magistrates on Thursday.
