Great idea, but why give kids the option to continue, we're going to end up once again with the tail wagging the dog. Parents have a right to be parents and any responsible would wish to know the whereabouts of their children. Better if the kids didn't know anything about it really, otherwise if they do want to get up to something they shouldn't they would leave their phone at the place they are supposed to be, and go to where they want to be without the safety of having a phone with them.
This is a very good idea if you can get more accurate location information. Anything over 2 miles is a lot of area and in a city that could be anywhere.

I believe that as long as the child is given the option to refuse the service then this is a great idea. But if further down the line the child were to become unable to deny this service of being pinged and tracked through their cell phone it would develop issues.
Good idea shame about the high cost though. Though it could be argued what price childs safety but in the real world parents seem to care anyway. Charge the parent for not keeping a watch on their child in the first place.
if the child can cancel this at any time then this relies on trust between the child and the parent, so why not just text them it is far cheeper and if you are on 3 or virgin you really do need to pay alot for this service.at the end of the day you can only know where they are if the kids want you to know, catch 22...
Well, aside from the slippery slope argument, think about this! Who else can track the children? Besides the parents I mean? Did you know it is not very difficult to tap into these monitoring systems? Do you feel safer now?
Its not a new idea! I signed up with a company called Trace A Mobile.co.uk in Oct 03 and they offer exactly the same service, but much cheaper and can also track with an accuracy of up to 50 metres. I also get 10 free tracks a month!
I am 16 years old, the thought of my mother knowing my location at any given time is slightly concerning. However, I believe this scheme has the potential to benefit many families struggling against disobedient teenagers. The price seems steep, although i'm sure this will not deter parents in need.
