Thieves steal wedding jewels

THIS is Faiza Durrani on the day of her wedding three years ago.

But now the photograph is all Faiza, 26, has left after burglars stole the treasured jewellery she wore on her special day.

Faiza, from Birmingham, had been staying at a friend's house in Manchester before a family wedding, so had brought her jewellery along to wear.

But when she, family and friends left the house in Burnage, the burglars went in through the back door, taking not only Faiza's jewellery, but gold bangles, ear-rings and other items belonging to four other families who had been visiting from Pakistan and America worth more than £10,000.

The thieves also took heart medication belonging to an uncle, return flight tickets to Pakistan, three Pakistani and two American passports, cash and mobile phones.

Faiza said: "My jewellery was really beautiful - my in-laws bought it for me. It is not the financial value which bothers me, it is the sentimental value. I am shattered to have lost it in this way.

"Even if I was able to get it back, or buy something new, it just wouldn't be the same. It makes me feel so sad. It was such a horrible thing to happen.

"Another girl who was due to be married the following week had some of her jewellery stolen, too. "

The burglars are thought to have struck at around 11.30pm on June 29. Police are keen to talk to witnesses who may have seen something suspicious in the Mauldeth Road area at around that time, or anyone who may have been offered Asian gold jewellery sets for sale.
