My crash course in Powerisers

ANY hope I had of running, galloping or bounding on the Powerisers strapped to my feet were quickly dashed, writes Brian Lashley

My aptly named crash course in Heaton Park didn't take off.

Having never mastered the art of staying upright on a skateboard and looking more like Mr Bean than Torvill and Dean during my last attempt at ice skating, staying upright on the Powerisers was always going to be a daunting task.

I may have dreamed of leaping 6ft in the air but I was soon brought back down to earth with a bump.

As I strapped on my knee and elbow pads, it was clear raising a leg a couple of inches off the ground would take some doing. They felt heavier than expected, and weigh around 5kg.

When our photographer and Elli pulled me to my feet, my first priority became how do I cushion my fall.

You have to keep your back straight and raise your knees to walk. I never managed it unassisted. When I tried, the short-lived journey ended in me falling to the ground.

It was only when Elli strapped on a pair to demonstrate how they worked, that I actually believed anyone could move in them.

The Powerisers look amazing and may well take off and become the latest craze, but my feet are staying firmly on the ground.
