I too am paying over the current calculations of 15% for the one child I have. At times when I do not work ovetime I am paying 30% of my net income. It's time the whole CSA thing was sorted out so I can start to repay some of the debts THE CSA has created in my life.
The CSA were once on my back. They made mistakes which sugested i was earning twice as much and made calculations based upon this made up figure and then demanded back pay immediately. After going two two appeals they finally backed down and life was worth living again. The whole system is completely unfair and ran by idiots. Most absent parents just want to see their children and pay a fair amount for upkeep rather than being taking for a ride.
There are options though for anybody in despair when all logic and reasoning has gone. You can work in southern Ireland or abroad, Thailand and Malaysia are good places. If you should become unemployed for a couple of weeks you can inform the CSA about this situation which stops the money drain. You can then regain employment and work for yourself through a ltd company on contract. You will only pay child support on the money that leaves your company to yourself.
How many men have now suffered this fate? I worked with a guy who came close to it, but as that was before they tried to revamp the computer system his complaints actually got through and the payment amount reduced. That was all that saved him from taking the same route. Why are the CSA taking enough to leave someone homeless and why aren't they being held to account for it??! It honestly makes me wary of starting a family.
While I am sorry this man took his life, his children had to be supported and still have to be supported. Of course he won't have to pay for them now, but his former wife now has that responsibility alone. Suicide is selfish, the CSA only hounds people who fail to pay. The message he has given his kids is; i didn't care about you because 1/ i wouldn't pay without having my earnings attached to do so 2/i would take my own life rather than taking charge of it. Its a real shame for his kids who have no father and no male being financially responsible towards them now.
It is such a shame that this had to happen. The CSA are to blame they say they are there to help the childrne but they just make peoples lives a misery. My partner split from his wife and within 3 months of the split had been evaluated and was paying CSA. His kids came to live with use over a year ago now but yet he still have to pay CSA. I mean really how much debt could he have accrued within the first 3 months in order to have to pay it off for over 4 times the length off time. 3 months to arrange payment = over 12 months debt. I don't get it do you?
Lou, you don't know the half of it. Part of my job is helping to sort out the messes that the CSA can make. Firstly, people can choose to pay directly from their earnings - it isn't always imposed as a punishment for non-payment. The CSA doesn't only hound people who fail to pay, they have been known to hound people who have already paid. Their computer system stinks and the figures it produces are often wrong. I had one guy who earned B#210 per week, the CSA took B#190 and told him that it was only 27% of his wage. Also (Tez) his wife did not necessarily "go to the CSA". If she was on benefits, then she would have had no choice, because it is compulsory.
Lou and Tez, get your facts straight before commenting on this tragic incident. The CSA don't hound the ones who fail to pay - they hound the ones who are honest enough to be traceable. The majority of absent fathers pay nothing, as the CSA can't find them. The ones they do find, have to pay extra to compensate. Of course the chidren need supporting, but that shouldn't bankrupt the poor man, prevent him from ever having any life again and driving him to this point. You don't need to voluntarily tell the CSA, his ex would have registered for single parent benefits, which is when she would be told she will get nothing if she doesn't tell the CSA who the father is. After that, she is helpless to stop them. As for selfish, do you really think someone in that state can think rationally? Do you know why most suicides are committed without leaving a note? Its because they are physically incapable of rational thought or writing anything. Get off your moral high ground.
What i would like to know is when is the CSA going to get it's act together, as i am still paying 30% for one daughter, when the so called system should have been changed over 2yr ago. How much blood do they want on their hands? help! help! help!
I am sorry to read that Mr Eglon committed suicide and I refuse to condemn him for selfishness as others chose to do. It is not always a selfish motive; it can arise because someone cannot see around the corner at all and feel that they have no option, and accordingly, no hope. Apparenmtly ineradicable debt intertwined with absent children is a powerful catalyst to despair. I too have had my brushes with the CSA and have managed after 2 years of stupidity, incompetence, and inadequacy on their part, to keep them at bay and out of my life. I am fortunate to be in a new relationship with a new son, but I have not seen my daughters (for whose upkeep I have paid scrupulously over the last 5 years) for 4 years. I am not suicidal, but I can understand someone might be, especially if they are trying to move on but feel they cannot. My sympathy to Mr Eglon's family and Miss Allcock
The ill-informed comments by "Lou" and "Tez" are really quite disturbing/depressing, but to move on: the "Child Support" Agency is a grotesque national tragedy and anyone - be they mother or father - caught in its Byzantine mincing machinery will realise that a concern for the well-being and support of their children is the last thing that the CSA is concerned about (I'm assuming a level of intelligence here and not looking for someone to split hairs by pointing out the, what is, inevitable statistical obviousness that, with some 2 million adults on the CSA's books, a bunch of chimpanzees running it would, inevitably, have "success cases". The FACT (read the reports) is that the CSA IS a failed organisation.). Forget all questions concerning when will the CSA work? - it will never work (support children at levels even remotely acceptable). Forget all concerns that the CSA is not doing right by children - it will never do right by children (it was never designed to do this!). No, it is indicative of the obscenity of what has gone on with the CSA now for over twelve years that the only questions now remaining are: when will it be scrapped and when will those responsible for setting up and "running" it be brought to book? Then - and only then - should other, this time sensible, reasonable, human beings sit down and design and run a system of child support actually predicated on the support of children, not the reduction of caring, loving parents to collections of body parts capable of producing mathematical results. My sincerest sympathies to Mr Eglon's family and friends - and to all those suffering the monstrous obscenity that is the CSA.
If anybody is having trouble with the CSA, take your complaint with all the relevant documentation to your MP (they have a direct line to the CSA) and keep pestering until something is done. Also, get in touch with an organisation called NACSA (National Associtaion for child support action) who know child support law better than the CSA and frequently have to correct their mistakes.
I'm suprised that after 12 years of suicides and misery, someone hasn't paid a CSA office a visit with a firearm or some other weapon.
I have been in the same situation. The CSA are a disgrace. When you complain even to the CSA the replies are full of lies. If the Labour Governament had brought in the reforms this guy would have had a max of 30% deducted from his wages. The reforms are 4 years overdue. This mans blood is on the hands of The CSA,EDS and TONY BLAIR
I too and sorry read Mr Eglon committed suicide. It was his only way out of a life controled by the CSA. Big Brother comes to mind. I am sure more blood will be on the hands of the Agency to come until it is fanally closed down. The CSA is so biased toward the parent with the children it is unreal. Do not forget they recieve help and benefits. Mr Eglon like many in his position, hard working and contributing to society wasn't given any help because he works. So he is easy prey to be bled dry by the CSA. I too have suffered under the CSA assessments. Thankfully I have had no contact with them for the last 2 years. Now, I am blessed with another child after remarrying and guess what. After contacting them for a reasseement they have stalled and delayed in replying so as not to re assess my payments downwards as it is not in their interests. Conveniently, the re assessment is not back dated either. What sort of Agency is this that can make their own rules up which favour them?
It s a shame that once again the newspapers get it wrong! Corporal Leigh Eglon
2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment I should know I was his Colour Sargeant.............
May Odin look after you Brother........
I fully sympathise with the case of Leigh Eglon and am so sorry his life ended so tragically. My partner has had to give up work completely after suffering a breakdown as a direct result of the pressure by the CSA and his ex wife. Basically, the CSA demanded so much from his wages and also 20% of my children's child tax credit and working families tax credit that we did not have enough money left to survive as a family. We are now actually substantially financially better off with my partner not working and living off benefits. It is a absolutely ridiculous scenario. Want to work but cant afford to! Our heartfelt condolences to to Leigh's family, in particular the childen involved. Yet again, the children suffer.
I really feel for this man.Im in the same boat myself mounting debt just to live a normal life.Yes I have a lovelly fiancee Id swap every thing to be able to meet our joint commitments but she understands and she is not a english girl.It makes me feel like packing my bags and saying good bye to england. The land of hope and glorie, this country stink's and it's going no where else but in the dust bin.Whens the next civil war.I have to send a letter to the csa in the next two weeks asking for lifes cost to be taken into concideration I'll be honest Im not looking forward to it they will want to no everything and I will get a head ache sleepless nights and for what sweet f a.They will lose my files,re-fer me to another dept and ask for me to fill out a wallet full of forms again.I sorry that there a lot of men out there in a bigger hole than me.You cant see the future its down to trust you meet a girl fall in love have kids and hey presto you get divorced and its the men who lose every time.Whats the point a!!!!!!!!!!!.
After reading other peoples comments I dont feel in such a hole and helpful advice is comforting.I think the general public ie the men should be given a divorce pack to prepare them for life of no life,no money,no holidays,no clothes,no nothing. And a web site and phone number, when life gets unbearable.More help is required by all more advice required so that we can fight back at this national disaster for men in there later yrs.Hope fully I finish pay when im 56yrs old and I get to retire at 65.I'll have nine years to catch up on life or i could just clear off get to a destination and burn my pass port and not bother comming back at all.
Well i really dont know where to start, but this is my first comment on this web-page. Manchester United are doing so Well.
I am absolutely gutted at what happened to this man.
I honestly honestly can not!
Put it into words, my sincerest condolences to the Eglon Family.
I am too being persued & hounded by these facist heathens splitting up families, not giving a damn about the children or mother, destroying & creating boundaries in families.
So many gangs already are feeling the effects of not having fathers around to show them how to be responsible in life, & not looking to gangs for family values.
Family do need fathers, regardless if the parents are together.
I hope people will see what this agency is doing to this Nation!

Why is this news not as important as branding CSA victims as dead beat dads as oftern seen in the media.
If this poor guy was the victim of a serial killer, why would it be more news worthy?
