SEARCH engine Google has become the number one in the UK and cornered a larger share of the massive search engine market in this country than it has in America.
According to the research from the online intelligence company Hitwise, Google has taken a 48% share of the British market. In America the company achieves 37%.
Announcing the latest research, Hitwise said that understanding the way people use search engines has become increasingly important for companies.

The report explains: éSearch marketing has become a vital component of a successful customer acquisition strategy. Subsequently, an understanding of the user profile and market strength of the various search engines, has also become important. é
The research also found the industries that received the largest percentage of visits from search engines and directories were those involved in computers and the internet, shopping and classifieds advertising, entertainment, business and finance, and travel.
It also found that the most commonly searched for words, after éebayé, were éeasyjeté and éamazoné .
Each day, Hitwise monitors how more than 25 million Internet users interact with over 500,000 websites across 160 industry categories.
