Police were called to Albert Royds Street in Belfield at about 3pm today.
The girl was hit by a silver Mitsubishi Carisma outside Mayfield Parade and was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital suffering from head injuries.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said: "The young girl has been taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remains in a serious condition.
"One man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
