Greater Manchester appears to have escaped the worst of the icy temperatures that were forecast to cause major disruption in the Monday morning rush-hour.
But weathermen are predicting icy conditions to last all week with subzero temperatures every night until the weekend.
The lake at Heaton Park froze over during the weekend, allowing these swans to take a morning stroll on the ice on Monday morning:
Snow-seekers wrapped up warm over the weekend and took to the slopes to make the most of the February freeze.
Weather experts urged winter revellers to enjoy the snow while it lasts, with clearer conditions expected to sweep across the region this week.
Met Office chiefs warned that although further widespread snow was 'not expected' before the end of winter, plunging temperatures could see freezing fog and ice remain throughout the rest of this week.
Spokesman Dave Britton said: “We will see outbreaks of rain and warmer daytime temperatures across Greater Manchester which will clear the snow away, but those temperatures will drop into the night and create some very tricky driving conditions.
“The risk will move from snow to one of ice and freezing fog which we will have to contend with well into the week.
“What we have at the moment is a battle between cold air coming across from eastern Europe and warmer air arriving from the west.
“As the cold air pushes out into the week you will see clearer skies and warmer conditions during the daytime, which would be unlikely to bring further snowfall other than the possibility of light snow in higher grounds in the Pennines.”

Manchester Airport, which closed its runway for 90 minutes at 7pm on Saturday, has said it expects no further disruption to flights over the next 48 hours.
Paul Hadfield, spokesman for the airport, said: “Other than the 90-minute closure of the runway to clear it of snow, we haven't experienced any disruption and we are currently back on track.
“We are not anticipating any further problems over the next couple of days but as always our forecasters will be monitoring the situation as we go on into the week.
“As other European airports, including London Heathrow, have been experiencing problems we advise passengers to keep an eye on things check the status of their flights before arriving at the airport.”
Temperatures dipped to -7.5C in Woodford, Cheshire and -2C in Manchester city centre over the weekend as winter struck the region with a vengance.
Ambulance crews saw a surge in call-outs and firefighters also tackled a number of weather-related incidents.
Metrolink services on the Eccles and Bury lines were also disrupted and bus services in Bolton and Bury were suspended on Saturday as extreme weather worsened throughout Saturday.

Looks great on a postcard!
Here is the news, Today there is no news so we'll talk about what could have happened if the news predicted last week had happened. However, it didn't so if anyone has some nice photo's of snow, please send them in and we will show them next time there is no news.
Metrolink may say their trams are extremly busy, they always are at rush hour. They don't have the capacity to cope on a normal working week let alone when there is above average demand.
And knowing this they brought new trams which in real terms fit on less people than the older ones and don't double up the new trams either.
Cold snap to last all week? so that's why it all thawed today then.
Cold snap all week?
95% of the snow and ice in Manchester has thawed on Monday. Nice to know MEN has it's finger on the pulse.
It was positively spring weather this afternoon. I look forward to tomorrow and hopefully sunbathing weather...
