Wedding is a doggy double act

WEDDING: Sonia and Steven with Lucy and Hooch

IT will be top hat and tails all round when Sonia Wilde and Steven Begley walk up the aisle.

The Manchester Evening News had already reported how they will they be joined by their pet collie as chief bridesmaid, ably assisted by bridesmaid Kelly Mosley.

Now, a neighbour's dog has got in on the act - as a page boy.

The couple's own dog, Lucy Brown, is being fitted for her frilly pink outfit, and plans are being expanded to allow canine pal Hooch to accompany her, dressed in trousers and a topper!

However, Lucy Brown and Hooch could find themselves hounded out of the limelight altogether if the bride and groom get their ultimate wish - to have George Michael sing live at the church.

The couple appealed live on radio for former Wham! frontman George to sing the group's hit Club Tropicana at St Matthew's Church in Edgeley, Stockport, on their special day, October 1.

Sonia said: "We decided to make an appeal to George Michael.

"I don't think we will have much luck but we gave it a try."

With each passing day these sort of stories in the media grow more & more ludicrous. It wouldn't come as any surprise to me if in the near future this couple divorced because the wife was playing away with the Alsation down the road & the groom then went on to marry the wretched bridesmaid dog in this sorry tale. Anything now seems possible in today's decadent society.

I've never heard of such an egoistical couple! Are they planning to make solemn vows before God's altar and his representative or do they simply want to stage a circus? The sacredness of the vows that they will exchange should take absolute priority over dressed up dogs and pop stars! Shame on the Vicar who should know better. This attempt to grab headlines by the couple is out of control.

Sounds more like a dodgy double act. Hope the Vicar will have his vergers on hand with poop a scoops just in case....what if the dog takes a fancy to the bitch during the ceremony? Whole thing sounds like a farce. It seems that the Church of England will allow anything these day - what next dogs as priests and bishops?

I thought that the whole idea of allowing hotels, stately homes, castles etc to be licensed to hold civil weddings was to stop this kind of thing. Too many people are making use of a Church ceremony but not committing themselves to the tenets of the Christian faith. A Christian marriage is about a (1) Lifelong commitment of love and communion to one another in the Lord (2) A commitment to having children and educating them in the Christian faith (3) Absolute fidelity to one another ' till death us do part'. If either party excludes these 'ends' then the marriage according to the church is simply invalid. In this day and age when societie's idea of marriage is so different, i.e. 'just a partnership that can be broken up by the will of either party' the ideals of Christian marriage must seem to be lofty yet noble. Whilst the day must be special and a celebration for Sonia and Steve, their friends and the Christian community nothing may be allowed to trivialise the sacred nature of the vows. Club Tropicana would, in my view, have best been reserved to the reception and their first dance together as man and wife, and the dogs, charming though they undoubtedly are, to a place of honour at the reception.

We say sorry to the vicar whoe made his comment and would like to say that we will no longer be having the male dog as page boy but are sticking to our lucy brown as bridesmaid.We wew filmed for granada tonight and she was so well behaved,better than some children even.We are happy to receive all coments bad or good and do not take offence in any of them.Thankyou very much.

I also feel the diocesan authorities should consider action against the incumbent of the church. Surely this is a totally inappropriate use of the church of GOD.

WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO AD THAT THE VICAR HAD A LOT OF COURAGE TO SAY YES TO US AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY BAD COMMENTS TO BE DIRECTED TO US RATHER THAN HIM AS WE ARE SO HAPPY HE SAID YES TO US AND HE IS A LOVELEY MAN WHO DOES NOT DESERVE ANY TROUBLE FROM THIS.

Why is there so much criticism of this young couple when there are thousands of couple living in unmarried relationships who get no criticism? It would be insulting those lovely animals to say that this country's moral values have gone to the dogs. I wish this couple well in their marriage and suggest they ignore the warped minds of their critics.

May I take this opportunity to register my disgust at the television companies & newspapers that must have dragged poor Sonia Wilde & her hound before their cameras to make her pose for their cameras & force interviews out of her regarding this sordid story. They should hang their heads in shame because as Sonia has stated herself "I AM NOT ATTENTION SEEKING". So I hate to think what kind of threats have been made to her by these companies in order to make her pose before their cameras & how it even got in the press in the first place ? She must be mortified by all this unwanted press intrusion into her life & has my deepest sympathy for all this unwanted publicity she has unjustly received.

Why did this couple sink to the level of dragging a dog up the aisle to get on television & in the papers. There's plenty of other shows they could have applied to get onto the television such as "Big Brother", "Pop Idol", "The X Factor" etc, which are all to happy to show people like this to us for a laugh. I don't think anyone has taken a dancing dog in a dress on any of these, so they were sure to get on screen.

I am getting married next summer. My dogs will be in the wedding, they are our children and deserve a place in the ceremony. Bailey our golden will be our ring bearer, Tilly our Boston Terrier will be our flower girl. They are amazing kids and we would not have it any other way. One comment insisted that the whole point of marriage is blah blah christian blah. What that christian doesn't seem to take note of is that there are several religions, faiths, and others who get married for their own reasons. I will have a non denominational ceremony because it saddens me that the faiths don't think my kids (the dogs) have souls. They have more soul than many humans. I don't not believe in a god, we just don't know which one is right if any of them are. But back to the subject. I highly approve of the dogs being part of an important day. It'll be great!

I would like to say that i feel this is a wonderfull idea and if you beleive that your dogs are part of your family and wish them to be in your wedding then all power to you. I myself am planing a wedding and having my 2 dogs as my flower girl and ring barrer as aposed to using some distaint relitives children. I hope it all works out you for.
