Rochdale boutique owner named among 100 most influential trendsetters in British fashion

Kelly and Paul Turner-Mitchell at 25 Ten Boutique

The boss of an independent clothes shop in Rochdale has found himself among a ‘who’s who’ of the fashion world – alongside the likes of Kate Middleton and Topshop chief Sir Philip Green.

Paul Turner-Mitchell, owner of 25-Ten boutique, has been named in a Powerlist 100 of the retail world, which charts the most influential people in the notoriously competitive British fashion industry.

The independent store, run by Paul, 37, and wife Kelly, 34, is a favourite among Corrie stars including Samia Smith, Shobna Gulati and Michelle Keegan.

Michelle boosted 25-Ten’s profile when she picked up the sexiest female award at this year’s Inside Soap Awards wearing one of their dresses.

And the boutique’s reputation is sure to grow after being named by influential insiders Drapers in a list which also features ‘Queen of Shops’ Mary Portas and Samantha Cameron.

It also includes former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, founder of the Pretty Green clothing label, and Sarah Burton – Cheshire-born designer of Kate’s Royal  wedding dress.

Paul, who appears at No 97 in the list, was singled out for his ‘can-do, no nonsense’ attitude and leading campaign work for independent retailers, which has seen him put their case to the local council, MPs, government and the London-centric fashion industry.

The couple – whose store is named after the October 25 birth date of their first child, Nicole, six – moved into their shop last November, having occupied a site on Cheetham Street in the town since they set up the business in 2007.

Paul said: “The shop was my wife’s dream and something I’ve supported her in. She’s Rochdale-born and has a passion for fashion and for the town. Our shop tries to source new small and up-and-coming labels each season to bridge the gap between the high street and designer labels.

“I’m thrilled to be in such powerful and creative company. It’s a real honour for me, but the real significance is for independents as a whole.”

Cynics may say a) if this guy is so successful and well known in the fashion world why does he remain in Rochdale ? or b) this shop is in Rochdale, it cannot possibly be in the top 100 of anything trendsetting !

Where was Primark in that list?

Easily the best shop in Rochdale and a beacon on its high street. Fab service from the girls.

I would say we need more like this, however if this was the case they wouldn't do so well. He does well because of the economic downturn and the fact the likes of TOPSHOP etc is no longer!
But well done to them both, as a female, i love my shoes and dresses!
