This is the bruised and battered face of a 90-year-old woman who was injured when thugs smashed into her home.
Alice Travis, a retired mill worker, needed seven stitches to a gaping head wound and was left with a black eye and a huge bruise on her forehead.
Detectives hope the shocking photograph will prick consciences and lead to witnesses coming forward.
Ms Travis had heard a knock at her door and put a security chain on as she opened up.
But the three thugs burst in, forcing the door and breaking the chain.
The door hit Ms Travis in the face before one of the men grabbed her as the others searched her home on Brandwood Street in Daubhill, Bolton.
Cash was taken from her handbag.
Ms Travis remains in the Royal Bolton Hospital and the photograph was taken from her hospital bed.
Det Insp Andy Cunliffe said: "I want everyone to take a good hard look at this photograph.
"It shows a brave and defiant woman who wants everyone see what these despicable cowards have done to her.
“If you know something about this incident than I ask you to look at the picture and do the right thing - this could be your mother or grandmother.
"We are determined to find out who is responsible for this robbery and take these men off our streets."
Ms Travis was interviewed today but has only been able to tell detectives that her attackers were three white men. All of them had their faces covered.

How can you do that to an old lady words fail me im ashamed to be human
Utterly disgusting that a old lady like Alice should be subjected to such an appalling attack.The spineless scumbags who did this should be locked up for a very long time, but I don't suppose they will.
It thoroughly sickens me to hear of incidents like this,just like the poor lady who was mugged in Oldham last week and subsequently died.

Catch them, and get three big burley policemen to do the same and hear them whimper for their mummies. But there again, they have their "yuman rites" dont they.
The question I would always ask them.....what if it was your grandmother who was punched and attacked....? And wait for their response

What kind of person can use this amount of violence against someone who so obviously is not a threat to them? The only reason for injuring this lady in this manner is that they derived pleasure from doing so. Someone, somewhere knows who was responsible & I hope they have the decency to tell the police. These cowards are not fit to be in society.

Sorry to sound like and old fashioned git who hasn't a clue about the ways of the world nowadays.I think that the human rights act is a travesty but I'm sure that many people would agree that the cheapest and most effective method of punishment would be to thrash this scum to within an inch of their miserable lives with a birch. I was a child on the Isle of Man when it was used there and nobody committed a crime twice after they had the birch used on them.
Really, what kind of scum can do this to a defenceless old lady? I don't know why the Police released the picture though "in the hope it might prick consciences". Honour amongst thieves is something that evaporated a long long time ago and these people and everyone that they know do not have any consciences. If they do get caught they will only get a lenient slap on the wrist. Utter scum. I wish this lady a speedy recovery.

Oh my God. Mrs Travis's injuries look terrible. She is lucky to have survived such a horrendous assault. For the life of me, I can't understand the scum who did this. Do they not have grandmothers themselves ? I guess they just don't give a damn. Poor lady - I hope to God she will be alright but she may never recover from what they have done to her. My real opinions of them will not be printed.
This and all types of violent unprovoked attacks should be treated with zero tolerance by the police and courts but they won't be because they are to busy dealing with other matters which seem to be more important.

This is totally outrageous.I wonder what the bleeding heart do-gooders will say should happen to the perpetrators when they are caught. A couple of weekend passes to Alton Towers??
What should happen is that they be taken down a back entry and beaten to within an inch of their pathetic lives. Then 3 weeks later the same again and this to be continued until they learn that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.
