Revealed: Our close encounters with UFOs unveiled in secret reports

An alien on the East Lancs Road and a spinning spaceship in Macclesfield are just two reported UFO encounters revealed in top secret files today.

The sightings are detailed in almost 9,000 pages of UFO reports, letters and sketches – released by National Archives for the first time.

A woman from Cheshire reported seeing a ‘bright light’ while returning from Southport to Manchester with family on the East Lancs Road in the 1980s.

It was described as an ‘unusually shaped craft’ about the size of a double decker bus, 30 feet above their car.

She told the authorities that they could smell burning and felt ‘almost dead’ during the encounter.

The woman said she was with her mother and she believed they had ‘lost’ almost an hour of their life.

Also in the files is a ‘close encounter’ with a triangular spinning object about 300ft above Congleton Road, Macclesfield, in June 2006.

A witness made an official report of the sighting, including sketches of the grey metallic craft.

Other highlights include mysterious lights seen moving over the Pyramid Stage at the 2003 Glastonbury Festival and near misses with passenger planes.

UFO expert Dr David Clarke said: "The files suggest that the UK government knows as much as we do about alien visitors and has no evidence to suggest we have ever been visited, despite the interest it has taken in sightings."

The files are available to download for free for a month at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos

Not one comment yet to state that UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object, meaning that it does not equal alien spaceship?

There are or never were UFOs'. If there were do you really think they (the aliens) would go and talk to woodland animals instead of humans? However, due to the recent behaviour of some in the UK perhaps they would - .If there were UFO's that is - which there is not.

There's more chance of us Tories and the LibDems working in a successful coalition, than for UFOs to be real.

However, just imagine if some landed in Salford: they'd be stripped, killed and eaten - with their craft melted down for scrap - before you could say 'Spock'.

Forget it you intergalactic travellers: no intelligent, sensible species here - the dolphins are nice, though.

The UK has not one person monitoring unexplained sightings of objects in the sky any more. Any country could be testing military aircraft over us and no-one monitors it.

A UFO doesnt mean aliens, it means its an object flying around that cant be easily explained.

On another note, to dismiss the idea of other life outside earth is for mad people and crackpots. Why wouldnt there be?
