A HOTLINE to help smokers quit has been launched by the Manchester Evening News after the region was named the country's tobacco death capital.
Recent reports have revealed that smoking kills more people in Greater Manchester than anywhere else in the country.
The latest estimate suggests that around 14 people die every day from smoking-related illnesses.
Now the M.E.N. has joined forces with the Greater Manchester Tobacco Free Project and the NHS to help stamp out the habit. We have launched a special helpline for readers to enable them to quit for good this year.
Trained advisers at the M.E.N. quit smoking helpline will be available from 9am to 5pm to guide people through different ways of stopping smoking and they will put readers in touch with a local stop smoking coordinator.
Anyone who calls the hotline will get an introduction pack from their local NHS trust.
Call 0800 043 3555 for more information.
Trying to stop? Have your say on how it's going.

I was smoking about 40 cigarettes a day and paying out $80 dollars per week
To poison my body and to shorten my life.
The good news is any one can stop smoking
And this is my story how I stopped.
1: first step you must want to stop smoking
Then you are ready for the next step.
2: Second Step
I made a list of all the reason why I wanted to stop smoking
And then I stuck the list on my mirror so I could see it ever day.
And I also had the list in my car stuck to the Ash tray
3 third step
The problem is when the Nicotine levels drops in your body
You want a cigarette, so nicotine replacement patches
Worked for me, I used them for about two weeks
In the second week I was cutting the patches in half
Reducing my intake of nicotine and then stopped nicotine
Patches after two weeks.
Its the habit of 20 years
Picking up a cigarette and having a good draw back and relaxing
With a coffee or Tea.
That habit is like a ball and chain holding you back from your goals
I felt like some thing was missing in my life.
4: Forth step
How to stamp a bad habit out.
4a: Go to your Mirror and read the reason out loud why you have stopped smoking
If you feel the need to scream that's ok, go for it.
4b: If the urge to smoke is over powering and you are ready to kill for a smoke
This next step will help you.
This worked for me and will work for you,
Pick up a pen or a fake cigarette any thing that makes you feel like you're just about to have a smoke
Now draw back on that pen or fake smoke and draw back lots of fresh air like it your last smoke you have in the packet
Once you get the head rush from the fresh air, you will be satisfied and more relaxed. Repeat as needed.
5: As time goes by, the habit will die and you will be released from the deadly and costly nicotine trap
you have nothing to lose, but so much to gain. JUST DO IT.

I've recently lost my Mother through lung Cancer which has devasted me.
I'm currently in the process of trying to stop smoking Cannabis and Cigarettes.
I'm doing it because i don't want my son to deal with the pain I've had to go through.
I'm finding it very hard but I'm determined to prove to myself and my family that I can kick this SAD and DANGEROUS habit in the head...
Good luck to all who are trying
